Settle an argument.

Who is more qualified?

YANBU A HLTA with a Level 4
YABU A TA with an unrelated degree

When I say more qualified, I don't mean generally, but rather in the school environment working with children.

Thanks for your opinions. They seem to mimic mine in most cases.

I'm fairly sure that Maths and Physics are also academic subjects, and as such might qualify someone to do a PGCE.

Of course they are. I'm not sure of your point?

That is why I said, if you had a degree in an academic subject it was preferred. The OP said the TA had a humanities degree which is why I used it as an example.

I didn’t think there was a nationally recognised HLTA qualification? There appear to companies online that offer a certificate but I always thought they were a con?

I would say the TA is more qualified but the HLTA could be more experienced. I’m a TA and we have approx 4 HLTAs at my school and I would say some are significantly better than others, some I wonder how they got the job at all.

There isnt. It is an accreditation and the requirements vary enormously.
