Worried I will be too wide for Jet 2 plane seat

Does anyone work at Birmingham or East Midlands airport? If so could you tell me if there is something like a plane seat that you can sit in to test if you will fit? I'm too embarrassed to ring.
When I Google it I see answers from people who are the same size as me, or see them on YouTube then it seems I would fit in.
However, when I look at their website then measure myself I feel like I wouldn't. I see other big travellers booking their holidays & I bet they do not book double seats.
I plan on having an aisle seat, with my husband next to me so I won't be impacting anybody else, just before anyone tells me to just book 2 seats

What size are you? I flew jet2 last year and had the same panic beforehand but I was fine, fit in the seat and didn’t need a seat belt extender-I’m size24

MuggedByReality · 31/03/2024 17:20

Almost all Jet2’s aircraft are Boeing 737s which have a 3–3 seating configuration, so the seat width will be the same as any other 737 operated by any other airline. If you fit in the seat on a Ryanair aircraft, you will fit the seat on a Jet2 737.

:( This is such a sad thing to have to worry about. I hope it's all fine and you relax and enjoy your holiday OP.

Toofattofly · 31/03/2024 17:29

@Deathbywhy I'm 5'4", no idea how much I weigh. I'm a size 24 too. My stomach is big but you can getvan extension belt so I'm not worried about that. It's just the width of me. Everybody I ask says I'll be fine, but I still worry now I've measured myself

I’m 5ft 6” so a little taller, no idea on my width as I haven’t measured. I totally get it, I was exactly the same but honestly it was fine, I was in the aisle seat and didn’t feel squished in and could fit in the seat perfectly well. We’re flying with jet2 again this year

Toofattofly · 31/03/2024 17:52

@Deathbywhy ,thank you. Were you a big size too, as well as taller?

Yes you will be fine.
I am a 24. I used to need an extender 10 years ago but despite being slightly bigger now, last few times (on jet2) I have been very comfortable.
Jet2 and others have stripped the seats right down for aircraft weight which means more space.

Ok if you are on facebook, there is an excellent group called flying while fat

it has loads of tips questions and suggestions to make flying easier.

for example asking for a seatbelt extender discreetly as you get on the plane and pass the attendant , you can always give it back if not required, but less embarrassing then trying to do a belt up and having to wave an attendant over once everyone is sat around you.

also the outside isle seat has a secret button on the underneath of the arm at the back to make it retract fully ( to help get disabled people in) which makes it a bit more comfortable as you can spill into the isle a bit .

also who is next to you? If possible put your own small child next to you, as you will be able to spill into that seat a bit and not worry about squeezing up to someone else.

personally I think you will be fine . A bit snug and not the most comfortable but aeroplanes are small places to be for anyone

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 31/03/2024 18:04

I'm a 24.. Ryanair is a tad smaller than jet2.. l fly with both a few times a year and perfectly fine. I do need an extender for Ryanair.. jet 2 plenty of spare in the belt..
Don't worry.. there is always someone bigger.

Have you considered blunting your tongue?

Investinmyself · 31/03/2024 19:00

There's some instagram posters that post tips about travelling as a plus size and show how they fit on different airlines.

Toofattofly · 31/03/2024 19:00

@ifkgcmtlucube As that wasn't the question & I feel you're just being goady I won't bother answering you.
Whether or not I've considered it is irrelevant. My immediate concern is if I fit into the seat in June; and as I said in my op I will be selecting the Isle seat & dh will be in the middle, so I'm not impacting any other poor traveller.

Fuck off

PickledPurplePickle · 31/03/2024 19:06

Go for it - I am bigger than you and I fit. I do use a seatbelt extension and always get an aisle seat, but it is OK

Toofattofly · 31/03/2024 19:07

@PickledPurplePickle & @Ketzele there's always one 😅

Have you considered gaining class?

qwerty98 · 31/03/2024 19:08

You should be fine, OP. I flew with Jet2 a few years ago as a size 20/22 with wide hips and thighs, I was dreading it but had no problems, no spillage & no need for a seat belt extender. Slightly snug but no impingement on the passenger sitting next to me.

I’ve lost weight (now a size 14-16) and I flew with Ryanair a few weeks ago and it felt much more snug than the Jet2 flight when I was bigger. It was my first holiday abroad since losing weight and I was so excited about having more space in my seat and not worrying about the person sitting next to me! It was a humbling experience when I sat down and my hips spilled out slightly 😂

Enjoy your holiday!

SugarPlumpFairy3 · 31/03/2024 19:08

I’m 5’7 and a size 24/26. I’ve flown with them the last 2 years and I fit fine. I sat in the aisle seat, next to one of my children, which helped.

Albertslittletie · 31/03/2024 19:36

I’ve never flown them but we booked them as I read their seats are pretty roomy!

when are you flying? We are going in May.

second the PP who said to find some fat positive instagrammers who specialise in travel like Kirsty Leanne travels.

I promise it’s going to be fine and you will have a brilliant holiday!
