To think it’s okay to do a big celebration for my birthday

I’ve been in a mental health hospital under a section for two years and over my last two birthdays sadly with limited leave on both years. This year I’m out and doing okay in recovery. I wanted to plan a big birthday with one of those outdoor cinema pods, get cakes made and an adult style bouncy castle that kids and adults can use. This would be all be able to fit in my garden. Just wanting to do something big as I made a lot of friends in hospital and also have a lot of family and other friends who I obviously didn’t spend a lot of time with due to being unwell.

Of course it’s fine! I hope that you have a wonderful time and that things continue to improve for you.

If you feel you are up to it in everyday, then go for it

Enjoy your day OP!

Why not? I think the problem is when people have unspoken expectations of what other people should do to make a celebration for them and get upset when it doesn't happen.

If you want to celebrate your birthday by making a party and getting your friends around, go for it. Big and splashy as you like. Hope you have a ball.

I think that sounds amazing!! It's a great idea to celebrate your birthday, your recovery, the birthdays you sadly missed out on.... this is a great excuse to go big! I particularly like the adult bouncy castle.
