Does anyone else not feel great on antibiotics? Like really tired and upset stomach? Currently on them and hate feeling zombie like!

I had to come off my last lot as they made me so ill, GP swapped them.

Greendoorsaremyfavourite · 31/03/2024 16:15

Yes. I usually end up with thrush too

Howaboutthats · 31/03/2024 16:16

No they save me when needed, sometimes get thrush but very short lived and more external. You could take probiotics with them.

Crunchymum · 31/03/2024 16:17

Yep. Currently on day 3 of Metronidazole (infected wisdom tooth) and don't feel great. Thankfully we had no plans this weekend but I'm not fancying any of the roast I've been slaving over all day.

eastereggsrock · 31/03/2024 16:24

I am almost finished a 5 day course of Metronidazole and they are definitely affecting my stomach and appetite. Just hope that I can enjoy my Easter roast dinner, I love lamb.

Will be so glad to finish them, but they have cleared up my tooth abscess.

Gettingbysomehow · 31/03/2024 16:28

Always they all have horrible side effects. But I only take them when absolutely necessary and then probiotics straight after.

iLovee · 31/03/2024 16:36

Oof yes I hate taking antibiotics! Dodgey tummy, feeling generally rotten and I always get thrush on-and-off for at least a month after too.

It's worth finishing the course though so you feel better. Hope it clears up soon ♥️

Antibiotics may be a miracle drug but are in no way discerning enough to attack specific targets within the body, so there’s always collateral damage.

AmiablePedant · 31/03/2024 16:37

To be more precise, some have nastier side effects than others and some people react more strongly than others. With some people the unpleasant feelings subside as you proceed with the course. A really good tip is to take every pill with a bit of food--creates a buffer in the stomach. My GP always checks which antibiotics I have issues with before she sends in a prescription, but I'm in a country where GPs are not so overloaded.

PeloMom · 31/03/2024 16:40

Yup. I don’t know what you’re taking but I was told to take with food to decrease stomach upset. It did make a big difference (still some upset but no cramps etc)

BertieBotts · 31/03/2024 16:41

I've never had any side effects from them other than feeling ill from whatever the illness is.

Hoglet70 · 31/03/2024 17:31

They always upset my tummy.
