If my mum gives presents to nieces and nephews for Easter and I’m on holiday is it acceptable to not get my only dc anything when we’re back? Easter is the easiest time for me to go away for work reasons so it seems to happen every year. We don’t have any other family so my dc only gets what we get them for Easter but nieces and nephews have a big family on SIL side so get a lot more regardless. I feel like it’s not ok that my mum doesn’t treat my dc the same.

mum always seems to go on holiday over my one dc birthday as well and conveniently buys the cheapest presents for my dc in comparison to what she buys nieces and nephews. Not sure if to question it as don’t want to be grabby but also not happy with my dc having less. All dc are under 10 if that makes a difference. We also get her an Easter egg before we go away every year.

I would definitely talk to her but frame it differently- mum it feels like my kids are being treated differently. It makes me sad when you go away for my DC birthday and don't make the same amount of fuss. Is there a reason? Have we upset you?

Perhaps she feels that you don't make the effort enough so she repays in a similar way.
