To not know how long to cook this lamb for?

And could anyone help?

I have a 1.2kg guard of honour. How long should I cook it for. Want it to be medium - pink but not bloody. Google seems really varied in what it recommends. I’ve no meat thermometer and forgot to get one and it’s from a butchers so no helpful “cooks in xx minutes” label

If the smoke alarm goes off its well done

Google bbc food roast calculator - you can put it weight and how you'd like it and it'll tell you cooking times and temperatures.

thank you @noctilucentcloud I'll google that now

That's saying 1 hour 12 minutes for medium. That feels like ages...... I thought it would be quicker than that. It's for dinner not lunch so I've plenty of time but I really do not want to ruin it.

I think I'll go for 45 minutes and then it can always have longer if not

15-20 minutes for every 500gr if you want it pink, 20-25 minutes per 100gr for well done. I had a 600 gr and took it out after 35 mins, it was a little too pink so put it back in for another 20 mins and it was perfect. Fan 200

Thank you @Turmerictolly

No!

That's far too long. A guard of honor is essentially a rack of lamb. Do not cook by weight! I usually brown racks in a pan to give them some colour and then cook for about 25 mins at 200°C.

Cover and rest for at least 20 mins.

Does depend on the dimensions rather than weight though.

Oh! Ok - my brother had a similar “no!” reaction. I’m going to seat it now then stick it in for 25 mins then have a look at it. It can rest for ages if it’s ready too soon

Well it’s in.

Browned each rack and seared the ends, linked it back together and chucked garlic, rosemary, salt and olive oil at it and shoved it in the oven. Will check it in 20.

I don’t eat red meat so I’m worried about messing it up and it was not cheap. Bloody meat eating family 🤣
