So, I buy a jumper size UK10, the jumper arrived and it's a size UK16! Huge on me...I report the issue straight away and the seller "kindly" agrees to me returning the item BUT I (the buyer) have to pay for the return of the item they incorrect advertised! In what world is that fair?!

Seems crazy to me, surely it’s false advertising?

Guess your only other choice is to sell it on.

Kalevala · 31/03/2024 09:44

I don't buy anything if the tags are not shown in the photos. Children's clothes have the problem where a 6 could be a 5-6 or a 6-7.

Kalevala · 31/03/2024 09:46

Also annoying is where the item is labelled as an 8 but listed as a 6 because the seller thinks it runs small. Say that in the listing but list it correctly! People may know a brand runs small and are searching accordingly.

pootlin · 31/03/2024 09:49

YANBU, that’s awful.

I sell on eBay. I sold some games but one buyer contacted me one game turned out to be in a different language.

When the buyer contacted me, I offered to refund him in full (including postage) as well as the cost of his return postage for returning the item.

Or I said he could keep the item and get a 50% refund, which he accepted.

nimski · 31/03/2024 09:49

I had this when sent completely the wrong item. I kept complaining/filling in the stupid forms until I got a refund (and sent the wrong item to the charity shop) I'm not paying for someone else's mistake.

witmum · 31/03/2024 12:55

The buyer decides who pays. I sent the wrong size in error but I paid, the buyer just had the inconvenience of posting it back.

bakewellbride · 31/03/2024 13:09

Yanbu it is stupid! Vinted frustrates me sometimes. Always ask to see a pic of the label before you buy next time would be my top tip. And check the seller's reviews.

100% agree. This has happened to me. Its the only way they steal business from eBay. No fees and you don't have to pay the buyers return postage.

I bought something recently and within 3 hours it was marked as collected. Reported it hadn't been collected and after 2 weeks Vinted sided with the seller and I can't get a refund. Theyve said evri shows it was signed for, which is another lie as my parcel shop never asks for signatures.

Iggityziggety · 31/03/2024 13:30

YANBU it is ridiculous. Someone sent me a new with tags all saints top that had a giant water mark on that wasn't visible in the pics, I was new to vinted and assumed if it had tags it would be a pretty safe bet, after arguing with me over how the mark got there she agreed to a return but I had to pay for it. I couldn't have sold it on or worn it so no other option really. Of course she had 5* reviews too because after you return you can't leave a review so all these chancers get away with it.

Interesting, I might chose to keep the item just to give her a bad review, but then she might do the same for me 😂

It totally puts me off using Vinted
I was doing well with it and had some great items but then I was sent the wrong item and the seller wanted me to either pay to return it or pay to send it on to the correct person and they would send my item to me. Err no
They did refund in the end but it took ages and they were very rude even though it was their error
Next I bought a hoody for my teen described as immaculate and worn once for a couple of house
Arrived and I lost count of the stains I spotted and was all bobbly and just rubbish overall condition
Agreed to refund but I had to pay return postage and faff around getting it back to her
Never again

TimeGrabsYouByTheWrist · 01/04/2024 09:55

Was it expensive?

I'd ask the seller to send you a return postage label. If they refuse I'd leave them poor feedback and sell it on which would probably be cheaper than returning it.

Just make sure the feedback you leave is polite but factual e.g. "advertised at a size 10 but I was sent a size 16. Seller refused to pay for return"

Rhoticity · 01/04/2024 09:56

I had a hair appliance removed from sale, with some guff about not allowed items. My item was not in the list?!?

Appealed, rejected

Reported about 5 others similar items - they removed 2 no idea why, and ignored 3.

Then after raising another help ticket, which took ages, they reinstated my item

witmum · 31/03/2024 12:55

That’s not correct.

Fr7fr6 · 01/04/2024 10:05

The seller can refund you without you returning the item, but it is at their discretion to do so. I had a seller do it once as I refused to pay to return a top which was heavily stained with foundation or fake tan.

TwirlyWhirlie · 01/04/2024 10:13

I bought some brand new with tags trainers from Vinted. When they arrived the (white) trainers had an extremely visible yellow mark on one of them. I took well lit pictures, ensuring that you could see the stain and showed the seller. She insisted that she couldn’t see anything 🙄 😡 That annoyed me even more than her saying I had to pay for the return postage!

Anyway, I decided to keep them as I was going on holiday in two days and, to be fair, they were so comfy and I didn’t have time to go out and buy anything else. I just hated being called a liar.

I left a factual review, saying about the stain but also being sure to say that they were brand new (as described) and sent promptly. She then left a nasty comment saying I was lying. As I couldn’t leave a picture to prove my side, I just deleted the comments and blocked her the bitch.

Saintmariesleuth · 01/04/2024 10:27

Vinted very much sides with the seller rather than the buyer- when I had an issue as a buyer, I was asked to jump through hoops at short notice to get a resolution (was lumbered with an item that was no good for me as I was unable to perform a task within the time frame)

To minimise problems, I ensure that I:

  • only buy something with full pictures of front/back and label (including size, brand, matetial & care instructions) in the ad
  • only buy from others with lots of good feedback and have been active for least a few months
  • buy brands where I am familiar with their sizing and shapes, and how they fit me
  • only buy items where I could afford to lose the money

Not that I think you should have to do any of this, but the customer service as a buyer is seriously lacking. Also lots of people posting items that give unclear/ mistaken/ inaccurate info, not to mention a few chances & scammers. I think it's gone downhill a bit since their recent big ad campaign

WinchSparkle80 · 01/04/2024 10:30

Am sure this is to make you sell it on and therefore, vinted makes more ££ from the buyer protection fee, which is just their platform fee.

rewilded · 01/04/2024 10:32

I agree. You cannot leave poor feedback. I had an item that was poorly described. I left feedback to say this to make other buyers aware. The seller then left the most abusive personal attacts on my feedback. It has put me off the site now tbh.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/04/2024 10:37

The problem with selling clothes on Vinted is that their sizing categories are not consistent with what's actually the case the UK eg- they say "UK12/L" whereas surely L is normally a 14?

Saintmariesleuth · 01/04/2024 11:41

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads you can't account for different sizing amongst the brands either- in some brands a small would be the equivalent of a size 10, whereas vinted assigns a 10 as a medium equivalent. If you are the seller, you have the headache of deciding how best to list it so it's clear for the buyer. Someone above said they would account for brand specific sizing when searching (as I would) though others wouldn't, or may not be familiar with the brand you're selling.
Sorry, no advice here OP, just commiseration
