Try not to stress, you'll do mo good to your brain, your heart or your stress by thinking the worst, nothing you can do until the results so try to stop and get on with life until then. Many reason for recurring chest infections, especially if you are around lots of people on a regular basis. Hope it works out OK for you

Do you take a Vit C supplement? I take way over the rda (3,000mg a day) I have asthma and it helps.

Husband has started getting chest infection after most colds. And colds about every other week, so constantly infected basically. No ones suggested an x-ray and he is an ex smoker and still vaper. He does have asthma though.

It could be that they are worried because of something in your history or the severity of infection but given how patchy care is could just as easily be that you're getting the comprehensive service we should all get. Please don't panic yet.

How many is quite a few? I get 2-3 a year (also work with little 'petri dishes) and I have a chest xray twice when got so bad was admitted to hospital - I think I get them quite bad as have asthma

nothing in my history apart from having chest infections but this time I coughed up a little blood plus I put in a complaint about another dr he wouldn’t give me antibiotics told me to take turmeric when I said I can't but I respect your decision not to give me antibiotics I’m going to the hospital because I’m getting chest pains to he said seen as though you have been so pushy you can have your antibiotics my chest infection went but came back I saw a different dr told her about my previous dr she was shocked and he was reported it’s been an awful 3 months so after me putting in a complaint I seem to have gotten better care she was a lovely dr and gave me stronger antibiotics…hope your hubby can get to the bottom of his infections thank you for your reply

I don't smoke. I was sent for an x-ray a couple of times when they wanted to rule out pneumonia. It's much easier said than done, and I'm lousy at following my own advice, but please try not to worry - it won't make any difference other than to make you feel bad and there might not be anything to worry about. Try and keep your brain busy with other stuff or create a set time to have a worry and then stop and do something else. I hope it goes well for you next week and you're able to enjoy some of your Easter weekend.

Covid is airborne. Wear a good respirator mask. My family and I have enjoyed years of being virus free while the maskless around us just keep getting ill.

I had a few years of this happening, I think as a consequence of flu. I ended up with pneumonia twice within a year and was due to have a bronchoscopy. I then got pregnant and it never happened again - not sure whether it was coincidence or somehow the hormonal shift helped. If you're a never smoker it's extremely, extremely unlikely to be anything worrying.

I also work in a school and have had recurrent chest infections for the past 4 months. It hasn’t actually ever gone away but I’m back to the horrible, lumpy, bloody phlegm (sorry if TMI) again this week. I’m going back to the doctors next week as this is very unusual for me, I never get this I’ll even when my whole class are chocked full of colds. I had a chest x-ray at the start of the year and it came back clear so hopefully yours will be the same OP.

Do you have children in school? How does this work?

DemelzaRobins · 31/03/2024 08:16

I also get 2-4 chest infections a year. I don't work with children but I have difficult to control asthma and pretty much every cold I get develops into a chest infection. I also take medication with an immunosuppressant effect which probably doesn't help.

I have had chest xrays in the past (last one was two years ago when I had two chest infections 3 weeks apart, both of which required steroids to bring my asthma back under control). All my chest xrays have been clear. I've not had any xrays for my most recent infections as I'm pregnant.

Thank-you so much for your reply it has made me realise I probably have nothing to worry about with my x-ray and that it's just a precaution
