Friends daughter home from university for Easter. From a Yorkshire university. She has a job in a fast food place which fits in with her course. She's admitted to being intimidated by young men coming in especially at night just now calling her and other kids there white queens.

Unfortunately it's a franchise and the owner is only there in the morning for deliveries . They're open till ten PM but are told to stop serving half an hour earlier to clean and prepare for the morning shift.

Her mother thinks she should find another job because some of the customers can get a bit rude and intense calling the girls white queens.

Honestly these girls aren't stuck up but delays do happen because the machines for serving soft drinks can play up, ditto the ovens.

They're only kids they can't fix machines and the owner can't either.

YANBU these customers are rude
YABU there shouldn't be an issue with service

Being nasty to frontline staff about things beyond their control is never ok in any setting.

AnxiousRabbit · 29/03/2024 16:24

I don't understand the reference or the link to the bad service.

The White Queen is originally a character from Alice in Wonderland, isn't she? Probably a bit over the heads of these scunners - they're almost certainly just racist little muppets trying to be edgy.

The girl should tell her manager that je needs to put a stop to it, and if he doesn't, she can find another job.

Racist certainly they're used to that by the non student fraternity. But White Queen is an odd one.

A White queen is a girl who thinks she's really really good looking, because she gets loads of compliments from men who think they are in with a chance, when really she is not that good looking.

Don't think it's connected to Alice in Wonderland https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=White%20Queen

Well isn't that a thoroughly delightful definition? I thought most entries in that site were satirical, but that one's pure incel.

White queen is an incel term. Your friend's daughter should not be forced to deal with openly incel men in her place of work

Oh yuk. Misogyny more than racism then.

Well it's not the white or well educated guys calling them that term which reading the urban dictionary term is pretty unpleasant.

One of them got pretty obsessed with the girl who was the last to leave having the keys. He was loitering outside. She called the police a couple of times. Not nice.

The boss is a waste of space he turns up in the morning to clear the tills and order from suppliers and that's it.

Rude and racist.

There is no manager or assistant manager working in the evenings ?
The staff are young girls on their own ?
Is this safe ? Who cashes up / Locks up ?

Staff who've been there the longest. No manager . It's a franchise so the owner is the manager.

This does not sound safe for your dd or her friends. I'd be advising my DD to leave ASAP.

It's safer than bar work, the last person is out before ten. It's in a busy well lit area near halls. They've more time for studying.

I was thinking Snow Queen from Narnia 🤦🏻‍♀️

The urban dictionary definitely is horrible.

If I were this girl OP, I'd look for another job. I can't imagine the rate of pay makes up for the verbal abuse and the fear factor associated with locking up and having weirdos waiting outside.
