AIBU?

To think cheaper drugstore shampoo is actually better?!

This is purely anecdotal but it’s got my wondering what other people think: I used to spend a ton on fancy hair care; it was all from Space NK, all the organic ingredients and minus all the “bad bits” — and my hair was not improving whatsoever. It wasn’t getting longer, it wasn’t any healthier and I couldn’t understand why. I ran out of it and ended up using my partner’s Tresemme that he buys on offer in Sainsbury’s and my hair never looked better. So I carried on just using that and months later my hair is genuinely so much longer and healthier. No other change in hair routine or anything?!

depends on the luck of the draw and one's hair.

I get dandruff with tresemme.

Depends on the person I think.

I agree!!

I had cheap shampoo and had a little bit of dandruff so I got the expensive head and shoulders anti dandruff fancy pants one and now my dandruff is much worse!!

I don't think shampoo will affect the length your hair grows at, but agree you don't have to spend a lot. I use whatever is on offer, or Aussie.

I will say that the expensive salon/ Space NK type ones were all rubbish for me.
I only like Lush... that work well on my oily hair.
Also a cheap coconut / dead sea salt one from Home Bargains, but it really depends on hair type doesn't it?

I think a cheap shampoo is fine, it's just needed for cleaning really but you need a good conditioner

Hah, there was me thinking Tresemme was the expensive stuff. Alberto Balsam or Tesco own work just fine.

3 months ago, I switched to Boots Everyday Coconut and Almond shampoo and conditioner. My hair's never looked better! It's only 75p for 500ml of each.

Mine is wavy and it's taken a lot of trial and errror
I use an expensive shampoo but cheap conditioner and my hair likes expensive styling products annoyingly!

Drug store?

It's an Americanism. Meaning a shop that sells toiletries and medicines.

Agreed! I spend my money on good conditioner and less on shampoo.

Depends on the hair surely. Mine is tinted and bleached, so I use wella fusion shampoo/conditioner and also add in olaplex no 3 twice a week. If I use anything else it looks terrible - frizzy, dry and brushing it takes great difficulty but looks shiny and healthy using them.

I like the ones that smell good. Been using Tresemme coconut which is totally wrong for my hair type but actually I’ve never had such luscious bouncy hair.

I think you’re right op. It only goes down the plug hole after all.

I use supermarket own brand shampoo and my hair's in great condition!
Don't ever condition it as it then becomes TOO silky soft. Oh the hardship. 😂
But yes, the cheap stuff can be just as good if not better!

Yabu to use ‘drugstore’ just because of YouTube and TikTok. We’re not American.
(yes I know there are a few Americans here - which I find weird in itself - but it’s primarily a UK site).

Doesn’t mean it’s not irritating. Sorry, didn’t realise we weren’t allowed to express an opinion here.

It’s stupid to find it irritating

Just expressing an opinion. Apparently saying that means it’s okay to say whateverI I want and it’s not rude.

@Mnetcurious (yes I know there are a few Americans here - which I find weird in itself) ????????

Why is it weird that people from other countries should join Mumsnet? and use a few slightly different words or idioms?

Cheap shampoo works for me!! Also washing less often makes my hair look better, and definitely saves money.

How do you know the OP is not American living in the UK? Why do you feel the need to try and put someone down because of what they call something. Very narrow minded and typical of the small minded people on here.

Not nearly as irritating as the idiots that try to derail the thread by trying to put the OP down. It is just pathetic.
