Not sure if this is an issue or not.
DH and I bought a flat last year. It was one of 2 flats in a converted house.
The flat was owned solely by Kevin. Kevin owned the freehold for the building. When we bought our flat, we bought 50% share of the freehold. Kevin told us the owner of the flat below was buying the other half too (so basically, both flats would own the freehold, and no longer Kevin who was moving out)
That didn't happen, so now we own half the freehold and Kevin still has half even though he's moved out.
However, we've received some updated documents and we can actually see that we own 50% of the freehold and Kevin's girlfriend owns the other 50%. Kevin is not listed as freeholder.
My main concern at the moment is that when we became the joint freeholders Kevin contacted us to organise the joint building insurance. He sent quotes, invoices etc - all fine, we paid our half for the year.
But the insurance is in our name and Kevin's name - even though from what we now understand, he does not own the other half of the freeholder, his girlfriend actually does?
AIBU to be concerned this would make our property insurance null and void?
