To think WTF is this?!?!

Last week, I woke up one morning, with a little patch of this blue colour on my bedsheets, below the pillow, near where my head/neck would be? I put it down to my shirt colour (blue), but today I woke up and it's like this! And my shirt last night definitely wasn't blue, and I've had it for ages. The colour is also on the back of my shirt - where my hair would be. Is my hair leaking?! I've literally never dyed it?!

Have you checked there’s nothing under your bedsheet, like a random sock from the wash/something wrong with the mattress? Also, does it happen with other bedsheets? Maybe your sweat is interacting with the bedsheet dye?! Bizarre!

GaryLurcher19 · 26/03/2024 10:15

How odd. Could it be transferred from something else like a scarf or coat or something on the sofa? Maybe getting onto you in other places and then you accidentally transfer it to the bed? Does it wash out of the bedding or is it staining? What hair products have you been using?

Junothatsagoodidea · 26/03/2024 10:16

Must be the colour coming out of the sheet.

pickledwillies · 26/03/2024 10:17

@OpenHeartZoo Nothing under the bedsheet! And it happened a few nights ago too on an unrelated pillow! The colour is also slightly on the pillow, where my head would have been. I've only had coconut oil in my hair, which I've been doing for years!

We've had thread about purple staining before and if you search online there are other posts out there. No one seems to have definitive causes, but it mostly comes down to hair dye, use of eye masks or earphone head bands. Some suggestion of topical skin creams.
There are also some very rare medical conditions that can cause coloured sweat.

OpenHeartZoo · 26/03/2024 10:28

@pickledwillies how bizarre! Are you wearing a new perfume? Could be the PH of your sweat or a cosmetic application interacting with the bed sheet dye. If you google, you’ll find some folks on Reddit reporting the same thing

GaryLurcher19 · 26/03/2024 10:30

Google the hair oil you use. It could be that it reacts but only with a few certain things.

pickledwillies · 26/03/2024 10:34

I googled it and looks like it might be a condition called chromhidrosis, which pigments your sweat?! SO weird. And I never get this on my actual body...

Do you have children? It looks like a small shoe print to me ? The back heel of a shoe like someone has stepped in something and then stood on the bed. All three marks show a crescent shape not random splodges?

BobbyBiscuits · 26/03/2024 10:38

Could the coconut oil, your sweat and the dye on the sheet/your clothes be coming together in an unholy trinity of weird coloured staining?
Maybe put a white sheet and see what difference it makes, and sleep nude without using the oil just to eliminate stuff.

Have you changed your diet at all lately? Changed meds? The sweat may be having some extra stuff in it?

I once did blue vomit, if that's any consolation. Lol and no I wasn't on the wkd or 20/20...I can't remember why but there was some weird scientific reason behind it!

DinoNuggetsRUs · 26/03/2024 10:46

Any chance you could be pregnant? I've heard of people staining the toilet seat blue when pregnant.

pickledwillies · 26/03/2024 10:49

@DinoNuggetsRUs No chance of being pregnant! But I'm thinking it could be this weird sweat disorder that colours your sweat

It's possible the ingredients have been changed in the coconut oil over the years. They may have changed the ingredients.

How odd, I run a BNB and had a duvet cover ruined by the same purple looking dye on it by a customer a week or so ago? Very strange.

RomeoRivers · 26/03/2024 13:11

Beetroot makes your sweat pink/purple/blue.

Daffsinfeb · 26/03/2024 13:15

How strange OP and even stranger as only this morning I noticed some similar very faint purple spots on my white pillowcase. Like someone had sprayed with dye. I have no idea how they got there!

DuckyLuck · 26/03/2024 13:18

Eeek! That's 3 people on this thread had the same now - are we being invaded? Definitely some alien behaviour going on.

UPDATE: I THINK IT'S COCONUT OIL MAKING THE BLACK DYE LEAK FROM MY BLACK HAIRBAND. TESTED IT ON TISSUE PAPER AND IT HAPPENED.

Thanks all for your thoughts and prayers.

So glad you found a reasonable explanation, rather than worrying about suffering a rare condition!
It's strange all these other people finding similar stains - I bet they also have something black leaking dye somehow.
