To think I should know if DP is having a job interview?

Do you think if you live with someone that you should know if they are applying for a new job? Especially if it's very different to their current one.

YANBU if there are financial or logistical implications for you in them changing role.

Though BU if it is just something they want to keep quiet / have limited pressure of expectation around (though in a practical sense if your relationship is good they may get a better outcome with a your support...)

Not necessarily. I’ve been for interviews and not told my DH because I didn’t want the pressure. However I’ve only applied for roles which would fit in with our life. If it involves a major change like longer commute or overnight travel then that’s different

I haven't told DP about a couple of jobs I applied for. He wasn't super supportive or encouraging when I chatted about maybe starting up my own business and once when I did tell him and ask if he could read over my application he never got round to it in time so I guess I feel a bit uncertain about sharing stuff that might not work out. But he wouldn't be majorly surprised given that I have been complaining about my job for a while

What do you mean by very different?

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 25/03/2024 21:56

Yes.
I did apply for a job that I thought I had no hope of, and didn't tell my DP until the interview invite landed. At which point I was so thrilled to even get an interview I couldn't hold the excitement in! The decision as to whether to take the job if offered had to be a joint one too.

Context is everything. Not married, no kids... probably fine and normal. Overseas job... probably not.

Depends if the person feels it’s just an unnecessary stress or that they are just going for lots of jobs and this is one interview in several.
