Could this freckle be melanoma?

I have a freckle on my face, I’ve had it for a little while but only recently I started worrying, it’s flat, all one colour but unsure whether the edge is a little irregular. My partner says I’m worrying too much, which I tend to do, but should I be worried? Does it look like a melanoma?

You'll need to ask your doctor tbh.

TENDTOprocrastinate · 25/03/2024 09:44

Looks like an age spot tbh. But it’s always best to get these things checked by a professional if you are worried.

Clearinguptheclutter · 25/03/2024 09:53

Is it raised? I have similar - not raised- that appeared around the time I was pregnant and is still there, though it’s not got bigger since (10 years on)

asked three different gps and they all said not to worry- it was appears it was a random freckle that just got bigger when I was pregnant ? Anyway harmless. Been told to go back if it changes or gets bigger and it never did.
Do ask a GP though, if they have the tiniest suspicion they will refer you just in case

Its an age spot. I'm covered in moles and my GP said it's the 'ugly duckling' 1's they worry about, the 1's you see and think "Omg!".

PerfectTravelTote · 25/03/2024 10:00

Like like an age spot/sun damage to me but I'm not a dr.

Definitely a relief to have a lot of reassurance. Will book a dr appointment just to be sure, but definitely feel a lot better hearing everyone’s opinion on here and now I think it’s an age spot as well

It’s not raised, it feels flat. I’m glad yours was harmless! I will have a check with a gp but this really eases my mind! Thank you :)

Good and don’t be alarmed if an over cautious GP does refer you.

but if it looks and feels like a freckle, it’s probably a freckle!

I don't think so. Could be a seborrheic wart. I have a couple. Does it feel waxy?

Ask your GP if you are worried, it looks more like a normal pigmentation mark to me but I worried for months about some skin marks/mole until eventually I went to the GP who referred me to the dermatologist straight away who checked and said it was nothing but come back if I was ever worried again. It was very reassuring, I wish I’d gone earlier and saved myself the worry!

Hi, thanks for your reply! It doesn’t feel waxy it just feels the same as my normal skin really

Yes I think it’s always best to rule out instead of worry! I’m glad yours was all nothing, thanks so much for your reply

Go see your GP. You can always have it burned off with azote or laser if you don't like the looks of it.

Josnie · 26/03/2024 20:48

Age spot. You can get some cream to make it paler.

FizzyStream · 26/03/2024 20:49

I would be very surprised if that's a melanoma. Looks like actinic keratosis / sun damage which can be treated with topical cream or cryotherapy.

Has it changed recently ie in size, shape, colour or started to itch or bleed? Those tend to be red flag symptoms.

Best get a dermatology referral from your GP to be on the safe side.
