Hubby dithering on going on holiday

I desperately want a bit of sunshine. Or two! I like exploring new places, history, markets etc. not a huge fan of sitting on a beach but would like a dip in a warm sea and maybe also a swimming pool to cool off occasionally.
We have toured France, a bit of Spain and other Europe bits. But I fancy going a bit further afield…. problem is OH is not keen on flying. So I suggested a cruise which we did, but was still Europe but a compromise. Next year I have a big birthday so hoping for a bigger trip…. Have made lots of suggestions but none are getting the green light from OH. Cost is not really a factor, we aren’t loaded but can afford maybe £5K for a couple of weeks. We also have time as partially retired.
he has suggested maybe I travel with someone else as he won’t fly but I have no one to go with ( no sister/daughter or close friends). Besides, I want to go with him! That’s the whole point of being married isn’t it? Although atm he is doing my head in…..!

I have a fear of flying too (only since having children, I flew all around the world before then!!) and have been contemplating doing a fear of flying course? I don’t want it to hold
back as I love exploring, and I want my DC to travel too. Apparently the courses really help x

Would you go with some tour company that specialises in single traveller groups.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 24/03/2024 14:16

You only mention female relatives... have you any male relatives that might go with you?

Oldbellows · 24/03/2024 14:29

I do have male relatives but they go on holiday with their wives! They won’t want me there as a spare part.
a singles holiday doesn’t appeal, I don’t like big groups. Just me n my man is what I want but no matter what I suggest he isn’t keen eg
river cruise thru europe
train ride (not orient express as it’s way out our price but similar)
Caribbean cruise but a no fly one from Southampton

I’d make a compromise and either do my dream big birthday holiday on my own/with family or a friend and a little UK trip with my DH.

Or offer a no flying cruise to Canaries/Caribbean.

My DH and I sound a similar age and stage and life to you and do lots of trips together and quite a few separately.

Presumably you wouldn't be tagging along with a female relative and their partner though?

Maybe a son or brother would accompany you just the two of you as I assume you meant with a sister or daughter
