To be upset by my MIL’s comments

ABIU to be really upset by my MIL’s comments about my DD’s weight. She said “I need to start watching what I give her to eat because she is starting to look a bit chunky”.

  1. She is a healthy weight similar to all her school peers;

  2. I’m always encouraging her to eat more fruit and veg and I hardly buy junk food in unless it’s to reward her for good behaviour or it’s a special occasion. I eat a balanced diet with lots of healthy food 80% of the time and 20% I might treat myself to the odd junk food and I try to be good role model;

  3. My MIL is ALWAYS giving her junk food whenever they pick her up after school. She is morbidly obese her diet is dreadful.

Even though in my head I’m doing all the right things it’s still left me feeling like I’m a crap mum for some reason.

How old is your DD? If she’s not starting to look overweight why are you bothered?

Tell MIL that dd eats a healthy diet at home and it’s her that feeds her junk and that she needs to stop.

Sounds like MIL is in denial about her own weight and diet.

If your MIL struggles with weight herself as you say then she’s probably projecting.

Use it as a good opportunity to talk to your MIL about what she feeds her and how she talks about food? “I’ve been thinking about what you said. I never want DD to hear chat about diets or her weight so let’s watch what we say around her. But I agree you could help her heath by reducing how often you offer her X Y Z”

Tell her to butt out

That doesn't sound wise, no no matter what your clearly unhealthy MIL says

Tell your dmil to butt out. She needs to feed your dc fruit and veg, not chocolate and crisps
