Parents letting their kids ride microscooters etc inside shops

God I hate school holidays.

One thing that peeves myself, colleagues and shoppers are those parents who let their DC ride mainly microscooters inside shops. It's bloody stupid and dangerous. There's a place to ride these - OUTSIDE!

I remember last year going to a different supermarket to one I work at. The security guard asked the mum for DS (guessing 6) not to ride his scooter inside.
"My son has the right to ride where he wants" screamed the mum. Erm he doesn't!

The thing is with inconsiderate parents letting their DC ride microscooters inside shops is that they have no concept with frail elderly customers.

Then if the child falls over or crashes into someone or something - the parent will demand to speak to the manager.

Why do parents let their DC ride inside shops?

One riding inside the changing rooms at our local swimming pool today. Parents walking behind - just bonkers!

Either they think it's fine or they don't but are too knackered/distracted/lazy/whatever to tackle it.

I agree it is dangerous.

Because store managers no longer have any authority and many of the public think they are above telling.

It grinds my gears. I'd love to say "scooting is for the park, not the shop" as I do "pavements are for pedestrians" to cyclists.

I never understand why it takes two parents to do the shop when the dc would be happier in the park with one parent whilst the other shops.

Did the security guard insist that the child get off the scooter then? After the Mum screamed about his “rights”?

HyggeTyggeDotCom · 12/04/2024 13:08

I was in a&e yesterday and there was a girl approx age 6 merrily scooting around the waiting room, kit looking where she was going and nearly knocking a few people over. Parents said nothing.

Hell is other peoples children
Selfish bastards

enchantedsquirrelwood · 13/04/2024 14:00

The parents are idiots to allow this. And then they have the cheek to moan about teenagers on e-scooters.

Well, actions have consequences, people.

Your kids have legs and feet. They can walk. Scooters are for gardens, parks etc.

Lol. This doesn’t even make sense, why do people misuse “myself”?!

The scooters thing doesn’t really annoy me much tbh

Riverlee · 13/04/2024 14:03

Annoys me as well.

darkchocolatecoffee · 13/04/2024 14:15

I agree, it’s so annoying!

Hate scooters full stop especially on the barrow path up to dd2 primary especially in summer. Nice whack to bare ankles with a metal scooter. Grim.

Some people just don't have the same social education as others. Tinkly laugh.
