How long were you tired after tonsilitis?

Don’t know if I’m expecting too much but I’ve had tonsillitis for the last week and I’m still knackered, when can I expect to feel half energetic again?!

Usually for me it took about another week to get back to normal, Ive had a tonsillectomy so thankfully I don't get the infection anymore but it is a rough one

I assume you are on antibiotics? When I start taking them I feel a million times better by the next day and fine after another day or two.

Cloud44 · 24/03/2024 09:26

Yes I am @Mrssheepskin , I’m feeling better than I was but I just can’t shake the tiredness have no energy at all

Took me a long long time to be honest but I have only had it twice (both as an adult) and had to have IV antibiotics both times to clear it.

How do you know if antibiotics are required? This is the first time as an adult, that I can remember, that I've had tonsillitis. I'm assuming that's what it is because I don't have the runny nose or cough associated with a cold. Currently on day three in bed with a really sore throat, headache and fever. I just assumed I needed to ride it out.

My DD had it a lot .can feel tired for some time tbh. A good couple of months. Someone told me 1000 %Vit c and zinc to ward off further outbreaks can help a bit

Cloud44 · 24/03/2024 11:39

@KarateSchnitzel if you have white spots on your tonsils that can be a sign that you may need antibiotics

If you've been on antibiotics you may need a probiotic supplement after which may make you feel less tired. But just the infection can definitely make you tired for 2/3 weeks id say. I've had tonsillitis many times.

Cloud44 · 24/03/2024 11:50

Thank you @SpoonyGoldBiscuit , I have brought some probiotics but im unsure about taking them in case of any side effects, I’m sure they made me feel a bit dodgy a few years ago?

Does it feel like you’re swallowing razor blades? It made me wince when I tried to drink water especially first thing in the morning and at night it kept me up so I wasn’t sleeping great. I’ve had it twice and both times the antibiotics worked almost immediately and made me feel
so much better by the following day.

When ever I’ve had a bad virus the post viral fatigue usually lasts three weeks from the start! If that makes sense! It’s always three weeks for me anyway! Currently I’m post three weeks after pneumonia and only just starting to feel more normal again

I was having these thoughts a few weeks ago. I had tonsillitis (1 week of anti b and v ill) I was then hoping to bounce back following this bad week. But it honestly took 3/4 week from this bad week to be completely back to normal. I remember speaking to my mum saying 'should I be doing anything to make myself feel better' but over time it just improved. Felt like I was never going to feel better at the time lol 😅 just try to be easy on yourself. Rest when you can, little exercise like a walk of 15-20 mins and you will build up your strength again! All the best! X
