To ask how I can get rid of this? (Cleaning Q)

We moved house not long ago and the sink in the downstairs bathroom looks like this.

How do I get rid of whatever this is? I’ve tried Vikal and a good scrub, it’s not done anything, may have made it slightly worse actually.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Neat bleach? Does it feel rough?

DarkDarkTimeOfLife · 23/03/2024 14:54

The Pink Stuff paste and a scrub daddy?

jengachampion · 23/03/2024 14:55

Following as one of our sinks looks like this and it feels rough so I'm nervous to scrub too hard and make it worse

Elephantswillnever · 23/03/2024 14:55

I find dettol power and pure good for stains like this.

Viakal. Leave for a while then scrape with an old teaspoon. That’s what I do

Aintforme · 23/03/2024 15:00

I've completely removed the surface from the waste by trying to clean it and I don't know how to replace it. It looked like this before I started trying to clean it.

Katemax82 · 23/03/2024 15:17

soak a cloth in limescale remover gel then leave that on it for an hour, then scrape it off

Crumpleton · 23/03/2024 15:26

On the sink itself is it raised limescale, ground in dirt or where the sink has lost its ceramic feel?

The plug may come up shiny with viakal or another limescale remover sprayed on to it or kitchen roll/cloth soaked in cleaning white vinegar and put on top of the plug.

Black harpic on a scourer...

Skethylita · 23/03/2024 15:57

OP please post here if anything works. I had to have taps on my sink replaced and now have an ugly ring just like that around one of my taps. Bleach and limescale remover make no difference.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 23/03/2024 16:19

Another vote for harpic limescale toilet cleaner! Leave it for five minutes to do the job. Use a gentle scrubber. Do not use bleach it stains and pitts the silver/chrome.

Put the plug in and pour white vinegar onto it all to cover, leave overnight.

Looks like limescale to me, vinegar will dissolve it.

The good one can be a bugger to open! It's cheap and fantastic, cleans all sorts.
