Please help as time is running out…

Is it worth buying for my soon to be 14 year olds birthday?

Is it so cheap because it’s so old?

Will it stop updating?

Any advice welcome because I am hopeless with anything like this!!

I can’t comment on the updating but Apple do have form for this.

I have a series 7 that’s coming up to 2 years old so I would possibly look for something newer?

CatsAndBats2 · 23/03/2024 13:25

I wouldn’t . It is fairly old now and charges very slowly, and isn’t very fast itself. Almost made me give up on Apple Watches.

i bought a 7 and the difference was unreal.

I have a Series 4. It's getting a little old compared to the newer devices, but works perfectly well and does very little that the newer ones can't do. It doesn't have a temperature sensor or the oxygen functionality and it's the last model that doesn't have the always on watch face, but I'm not thinking about changing it any time soon. It's fast enough for me and it charges overnight, so no issues there.

It still runs the latest OS, but how long that will be for, only Apple knows and it is now the oldest model to do so. This is probably the thing that would concern me most if I was thinking about buying one, but it's not like it will suddenly stop working.

How long the battery lasts on that particular one depends on how the previous owner used it.

If he's approaching 14, then within a year if will be
Broken
Stolen
Lost
Or so old-fashioned that he won't be seen dead with it

I don't know if there is a good answer.

Thanks all - so I won’t bother getting it. Glad I posted now.

@PigletJohn She is very organised and sensible - I don’t worry about her losing it or breaking it really.

But I am not willing to pay hundreds for a new version either as I feel 14 is too young for that
