I nearly did a road rage.

I was driving down an essentially one car road today, a car in front was trying to get into an impossible space, they weren't getting in, but I held back to give them time because there was fuck all else I could do. I had to give them to realise it wasn't happening. There was no maneuvering out of it.

Whilst I did so, there was a car that had turned into the road and aggressively drove towards me, he just sped the fuck up and came at me, I signalled for him just to go back a bit because I was waiting for the other car, but he just came at me, he drove at me. I did stop for a minute and strated to unbuckle my seat belt to get out to tell him to back the fuck off.

And then I realised it wouldn't end well and reversed 300m.

WANKER.

I'm very annoyed.

He sounds like a dick. Did he then have to wait for the person doing the manoeuvre or did he ram up to them too?

Volbeat · 23/03/2024 00:40

Did you reverse into him? 300 meters? I'm confused by this

Tetsuo · 23/03/2024 00:42

The person doing the manoeuvre realised it was untenable and went back.

I reversed 300m because the bad man scared me!!

OP posts:
Tetsuo · 23/03/2024 00:44

The bad man made it impossible for me to anything other than reverse.

He drove aggressively at me.

OP posts:
Volbeat · 23/03/2024 00:45

Then rage away. Still confused how you had anywhere to go if it was a narrow road and the man was behind you. 300 meters seems excessive.

But in any case, rage away.

Tetsuo · 23/03/2024 00:47

Angry man was at the end of a junction, he didn't have to turn in.

He could have just waited. But decided that he wanted to get up the road.

OP posts:
Tetsuo · 23/03/2024 00:48

Typo. 30m. Not 300m!

Apologies.

I'm confused by this. Was the car maneuvering ahead of you? Did the aggressive driver come from the rear? How did you reversing not cause collision?

I'm not unsympathetic, but Im struggling to see how reversing helped.

samarrange · 23/03/2024 00:50

Did the aggressive guy approach you from behind (in your rear-view mirror) or from in front?

Where I think @Volbeat might be getting confused (I am, anyway) is, if the aggressive guy drove towards you from your front, would the car that was trying to park not have been between you and him?

Could you maybe draw a picture? Sometimes these things are hard to get across in words because they're very clear in your head but not in ours. 🙏

IglesiasPiggl · 23/03/2024 00:51

There are some absolute arseholes on the road. You did the right thing not engaging, he could have been violent. Thank your lucky stars that that is probably the only time you will encounter him and forget about him and his arseholery.

My confusion is its a narrow road which is wide enough for one car. The car in front of OP is doing a manoeuvre but can't.

OP hangs back to let them finish whatever they are doing.

Angry man pulls into the road, so either a left or right turn into the road BEHIND OP. He pulls right up to her like a bell end.

OP then reverses 30 meters. How did she not crash into him? If the road is narrow and she can't go forward due to maneuvering dude, her only option is backwards straight into angry man.

Think we need a diagram op

He drove In Front Of Me..

He drove towards me. Quickly and aggressively!

It was a a face-off, and I started to unbuckle my seat belt and thought, no, I can't be arsed with this.

So where was the car that was doing the maneuvering?

I thought that car was in front of you?

Tetsuo · 23/03/2024 06:00

To my right was a car trying to park.

It wasn't going to happen though. It was a mid-size 4x4 trying to get into a tiny space. On what was essentially a one way street. I could have aggressively pushed past, it wouldn't have been my right of way.

OP posts:
hopscotcher · 23/03/2024 06:05

This is infuriating, but I think you made the right judgement (it wouldn't have ended well, and would have left you more wound up) and did the right thing.
I hate doing those reverses though! 😀

Tetsuo · 23/03/2024 06:14

It was the fact he aggressively drove towards me motioning me to move back. He had no right. I had my hand on my seat belt, I was so close to getting out and giving him a mouthful of invective. He probably would have got out and done a bad thing though!

So I just reversed and gave him a very passive-aggressive thumbs up...

I don’t get any of this but I love the phrase ‘I did a road rage’. 🤣

How does a car drive towards you on a one way street?!

How does a car drive towards you on a one way street?
Why are so many posters struggling with what happened?

It wasn't a 'one way street'. It was a very narrow road meaning cars could only pass one at a time / pull over slightly to let each other go.

Because OP was waiting for the other driver to attempt to park, she was holding back. The aggressive driver forced her to reverse, instead of himself holding back to allow space for OP to proceed.

I don't think it was an actual one-way street, but that due to its narrowness and parked vehicles, it was impossible for 2 cars to pass one another, hence OP couldn't move forward while a car was trying to park.

I could be very wrong though, it's not clear from the post.

But how did the aggressive driver get past the one trying to park to be able to drive at the OP? Confused

Supersoakers · 23/03/2024 07:13

She said one car road not one way street- I misread too.

Happened to me once, well a few times but once really late it was a group of lads deliberately racing up to me and laughing but they were right at the top of the road. I pulled back to let them in a driveway gap and they just raced up to my bumper again. Eventually they went back and pulled in but I had to drive round the houses still and met them again on a parallel street!! Same again. So then I reversed out and went a long way round the block and saw them doing the same to another car, again on my turning so I had to find somewhere else again! Nobs

But how did the aggressive driver get past the one trying to park to be able to drive at the OP?

OP explains. The car trying to park (so needing space to move out, reverse in etc) was big & OP was being courteous & waiting & allowing them space:

It wasn't going to happen though. It was a mid-size 4x4 trying to get into a tiny space. On what was essentially a one way street. I could have aggressively pushed past, it wouldn't have been my right of way.

It's really not that confusing.
