Apparently, you have to have lived on Mars in order to avoid the speculation surrounding HRH Princess Kate of late.

you totally don’t.

I use the internet all day every day for work, I’m on Instagram waaay too much. I glance at news headlines so am up to date. I scour YouTube and subscribe to a certain news platform. I use MN often.

Yet I have managed out of respect to put future queen to totally swerve this particular gossip mill.

moreover, despite having teenage kids, I have no idea what the kardashians look like, or who the Jenner’s are apart from their names that are banded about offline as well as online.

I only come across Andrew tate if I look for him. Which I don’t.

no idea who any of the loose women are, or what what kind of hatred the daily fail or the guardian is spewing out on a daily basis.

point being why does everyone assume we’re soaking up the same shit online? I guess it’s that’s cess pit Twitter and people clicking on click bait articles whilst reading celebrity gossip in the sun.

Is it unreasonable to say that it is possible to stay informed and not pay attention to the filth and misinformation online and that we do have a responsibility to do so?

Try using TikTok/Twitter/X. I don’t see anything on Instagram or watch any YouTube videos about it. Newer social media younger people use like TikTok constantly feeds it to people, as does Twitter/X. I see it constantly on Twitter and I don’t even “like” any Tweets about it. You aren’t using the kind of social media that constantly feeds people information automatically.

You are clearly very superior, OP. Well done for avoiding pop culture/celebrity gossip. If only everyone was an intellectual like you!

MaloneMeadow · 23/03/2024 01:39

We get it OP, you’re up on your high horse and want everyone to know about it. Yawn.

ButItHasCheese · 23/03/2024 01:42

It works off an algorithm - so it picks up on what you're looking at and feeds you more of your own personal click bait (so we all get our own personal garbage to read).

You're probably reading similar stuff to a lot of people tbh

Wow. Well done. You are truly an inspiration. We are so honoured that you chose to share your story with us. 🥲 So stunning. So brave.

CrappyBarbara · 23/03/2024 01:49

And yet you seem to be very interested….

Well, you know a lot about this stuff to say you're immune to it. 😉

betterangels · 23/03/2024 02:11

Mumsnet is social media. But well done.

It’s a chat room so no it’s not. But well done.

Yes it is social media and hilariously all those topics have featured here. Many times

A chat room is a form of social media. But well done.

medianewbie · 23/03/2024 07:59

It is possible I suppose. My Autistic Dd (16) managed not discover who the new Dr Who was for almost a year & that was in the news quite a bit. Hard to avoid the recent speculation re the RF. I guess the choice then is whether to interact with it.

betterangels · 23/03/2024 08:45

Of course it is. You just seemingly want to feel superior for some some reason. It also isn't a chat room, but that's a detail.

pinksheetss · 23/03/2024 08:54

Still seem to know an awful lot about it for someone who isn't interested and doesn't know any of them...

PuttingDownRoots · 23/03/2024 09:25

The PoW has been in the news. Mentioned on television, radio and online news. So not just social media. Pus newspapers.

So yes, for that particular story, it would be quite hard to miss in the UK.

People who are famous just for the sake of it, like your other examples, are different
