Posting for traffic! Wondering if any of your older teens/adult children have trained and worked in a PGL camp and what was there experience of it?

DD has been offered to do training many miles away and then working a long way from home. Food and accommodation included and I am excited for her however I've been looking on Glassdoor and there are some concerning reviews of being overworked, fainting and staff having breakdowns.

Ultimately its her decision and I aren't mentioning the reviews right now but may do if she expresses similar concerns.

I am dreading her going so for that reason I don't want to say anything negative and selfishly manipulate her against going - she chose not to do university and so this would be a great experience if she enjoys it and the reviews are unfounded.

Hoping some of you can share experiences either way.

Haven't done this personally, but remember that lots of the negative reviews are from people who've left.
Lots of seasonal work does result in people feeling overworked, but often there's great senses of comradery and staff get on really well at the time, and only realise looking back that they've done 14 hour days, 6 days a week. For a lot of 18-ish year olds, they do get overworked in residential jobs, but most look back at this time fondly and gain a huge amount of experience.

If they're not keen on PGL, last year Free to Be (A children's charity who takes underprivileged kids on residential holidays) advertised a summer job over about 7-8 weeks, which was paying £4k, may be worth a look if they're offering it again. https://www.freetobekids.org.uk/our-team again very intense and lots of hours in a short period, but very worthwhile. If I'd been of an age where I had that much time off over summer, I'd have definitely been applying!
