Why do some people get a fat face / double chin when they gain weight and others don't ?

I've gained quite a bit of weight over the last couple of years unfortunately.

I absolutely loathe my body but I would say the thing I hate the most, is actually my face and double chin.

Even when I'm at a healthy weight I feel like in some photos my face is a bit wide / round.

I have a heart shaped face I would say. High cheek bones but a small chin.

Some people don't look fat in their face even when they're bigger.

What's up with that ? Is it hormonal or something else ? If you look at Ashley Graham for example, she's not fat or anything but a bigger woman- but she doesn't have a fat face or a double chin.

When I've been that size, my face and chin is huge !

Genetics I suppose.

Booforcurtains · 21/03/2024 15:43

Yeah first place you see any extra weight on me is my face, daughter is the same so I'd fully blame genes.

MonsteraMama · 21/03/2024 15:45

I think it's genetics yeah. I've always got quite a slim face even when I gain quite a lot of weight, my mam and sisters are the same, we just don't seem to gain weight in our faces.

Our arses though are another matter entirely.

Same, must have done something bad in a past life.

KimberleyClark · 21/03/2024 15:58

I gain weight pretty evenly all over. I’m 5ft 2 and 11.5 stone but don’t have a double chin.

KalaMush · 21/03/2024 15:59

My weight goes on my tummy. I think a lot of us have an area like this!

MumMumMumMumMumMumMum · 21/03/2024 16:00

I wish I knew the answer. My fat goes straight to my face and my tummy. I look pregnant if I get too fat. 🤣

MumbleCushion · 21/03/2024 16:01

Boobs for me. I hate it!

SlackAlice1 · 21/03/2024 16:03

Genetics.

even at my thinnest I had a little pad of fat under my chin that i
could minimise by pressing my tongue up to the roof of my mouth.

Nowadays you can see my chins below my face even from the front. Couple that with the fact I’ve got no neck to speak of and I basically look like an uncircumcised dick with the foreskin slightly retracted.

Yeah this it's just what's in the family genes . Might not be from your parents , there many before your parents . 💐

RedCarWithDice · 21/03/2024 16:06

Mine goes straight to double chin and belly...it keeps me motivated to stay slim though as when I'm one stone over weight I feel awful!!

RoseBucket · 21/03/2024 16:07

I’m the same! Face and tummy, when I lose weight it goes in my arms and legs and the last to go is face then tummy, so annoying.

kalokagathos · 21/03/2024 16:08

Mine is bum and thighs, face is last. It's genetics- I take after my mum (re face) and dad (re thighs and bum!)

weegiemum · 21/03/2024 16:12

I'm very overweight but have a small double chin. Weight goes to my boobs and thighs. Which means dh doesn't mind 😘

stickygotstuck · 21/03/2024 16:17

Genetics.

Friend A has always been thin as a rake and she's never has had a chin (rather than a double chin, IYSWIM).

Friend B always been moderately overweight and she has the same no-chin/undefined chin as Friend A.

Friend C's weight has yo-yoed and there is no double chin when thin, there is one one heavier.

Friend C has almost always been considerably overwright. Not a double chin in sight!

samestyle · 21/03/2024 16:19

I think it's genetic, I'm apple shape and gain weight all over, really shows on my face and if I have a takeaway for example I can see it in my face the next day it's more puffy, others people that may only gain weight on the lower half of the body can still have a slim small face, but it takes a lot of weight to show on my thighs and legs, they seem to stay fairly slim even now at my biggest size.

purplehotdogs · 21/03/2024 16:34

Another vote for genetics...when I put weight on quickly, it's always tummy and chins. If I had a superpower, it'd be to stay at a healthy weight, slim figure, no double chin etc no matter how much I eat!

honeyandfizz · 21/03/2024 16:58

Mine goes straight on my arse but now I'm getting older the stomach is getting bigger too 😭

thesugarbumfairy · 21/03/2024 20:19

Yeah its genetics.
I do have a lovely jawline but in order to witness it im going to have to lose a good 5 stones sadly. I wish id appreciated it when i had it. I still have fat cheeks when im not fat as well. Its just the shape of my head. Its round.
husband has a bit of a double chin even though hes underweight.
