Shall I accept this property?

I’ve been on the housing list for a few years and have been offered a really nice property. I am able to sign for it and get the keys tomorrow but I’m still in my current private rented till mid April. I do get the housing element of UC so I’m worried about how I will pay 2x rents till the last date of my current tenancy so I’m not too sure what to do

How nice is your landlord? When we were in similar circumstances our ll took the last month's rent from our deposit..

Will the LA delay your move in date by a couple of weeks?

PinkyU · 21/03/2024 15:14

Either speak to your current landlord about ending the tendency a little early or speak to UC/the council or housing association to request a discretionary housing payment loan to be paid back in increments.

You should definitely take the housing security you’ve been offered.

Congratulations and good luck!

Take it!
If you can't arrange something with your current landlord/have an overlap, you can apply to your local council for discretionary housing benefit, it is designed for these sorts of temporary situations.

take it, just ask the landlord to take last months rent out of the deposit if he will do that or just inform him it will be late being paid

Overthebow · 21/03/2024 15:18

You should take it, it’s unusual for rents to line up exactly and you may not get offered another one for a long time.

WillowS08 · 21/03/2024 15:37

Take it!! There are extra payments you can get to help :) Then you get the luxury of a slow move too.
congratulations 🥳

Take it without hesitation. Best thing I ever did.

Ask for a discretionary housing payment to cover the extra for the month
