I went into a shop today and some people were approaching the door to leave the shop. I went inside and held the door open till the lady and 2x children probably around age 12 got to the door. My DC age 4 started walking off whilst I was holding the door and I thought as they had arrived at the door they would get it. One of the child went to get the door so I let go and the lady said ‘thanks childs name that’s very kind of you’ in a sarcastic tone and turned to look at me and looked at me with daggers.

I think she thought I’d hold the door open and let them all through, but as they’d got to the door and my DC was starting to walk off I let it go.

who was rude?

your 4yo child started to walk off so obviously you would follow .

Was a bit rude of other woman to make sarcastic comment and stare at you imo

YANBU. Some people feel REALLY entitled to other people’s services.

I was in a shopping centre and held the door for the person behind, who chose to walk through rather than hold the door for the person she was with. The other person then had the door bang into her and she said OUCH to me really loudly, instead of her friend who didn’t hold the door for her.

I wish I had told her I’m not her bloody doorman! I held the door for the person behind as a courtesy, it’s not my job to hold the door for everyone!

They were. You were holding the door for them to take? That was nice of you in itself!

I am someone who sarcastically says 'Thank you' to people who walk through a door I'm holding open and don't acknowledge me
