Office working is boring now

So I have been called back to the office now after wfh full time. The idea is when I'm in the office I can collaborate better with colleagues in my team. That seems to work well.

However I am finding the office dead when I go in and nothing like it was before Covid. It's so quiet - not many people in and there's no banter or lively atmosphere that we had before.

Is your office like this? It takes a bit of adjusting too!

Almost the opposite, I hate the noise in the office and have no patience for the banal gossip I overhear. I like the days when I come in with specific people to collaborate and work as a team, otherwise no thank you.

I go in as required but try and sit away from my team so I can actually do some work. Unless it's for a specific purpose, I find it utterly pointless.

I hear you OP!

I used to love work, it was busy, productive and lively, and sometimes funny. Now it is dull dull dull.

I think it feels like we're working harder, but it's very treacly, there's poorer communication and lots of people working in isolation.

Pre-covid I worked in an office, full-time and we all had our allocated desks. We would normally customise our desks, have nice stationary and photo frames. We had the radio on, used to order pizzas on the Friday after pay day each month.

Post-covid, I work for a different company but hybrid. 3 days at home and 2 days in the office. And the office days are awful. It’s all hot-desking, it’s dead, most people leave at 2-3pm to do the school run and then don’t bother coming back, they log on and finish the day from home.

Although I love the flexibility, the office days are so dull and I miss the atmosphere of office life pre-covid.

You can force a horse to an office but you cant make it enjoy itself.

It’s boring and the collaboration hardly ever happens because there’s nearly always someone working from home so we all end up on Teams to accommodate them. Pointless.
