To eat sushi on the coach?

I have an 8hr coach journey today and I always take my own food because I've done this same trip many times and very often we don't get a break at a services because we get stuck in traffic and are running late/there are issues on the motorway etc. So no guarantees of being able to stop and get food on the way. In addition the motorway services we stop at only has a McDonald's that's open and we aren't allowed to take hot food on board anyway.

I'm vegetarian but I don't eat much dairy as I find it doesn't agree with my system anymore and I don't like mayo so I lot of pre made veggie sandwiches are out!

I bought myself some veggie sushi rolls, no wasabi/sauces etc as it already has sauce on it, would I BU to eat this on the coach? Or would that be antisocial?

Ps: Coach is not busy. I don't have anyone sitting next to/in front or behind me 😂

Sorry I’m not sure I understand why you’re asking. Is there a no food on the coach rule? How could eating be “antisocial”?

FuzzyPuffling · 19/03/2024 15:21

Fish.
No.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/03/2024 15:21

Fish.
No.

It's veggie.

Fine op. If you cracked out a can of pilchards or those awful supermarket hard boiled eggs I'd have a problem.

Lilmabu · 19/03/2024 15:22

It’s fine it’s veg and rice it’s not going to stink much more than sandwich fillings

Onelovelyone · 19/03/2024 15:22

FuzzyPuffling · 19/03/2024 15:21

Fish.
No.

It’s vegetarian sushi so there won’t be any fish.

murasaki · 19/03/2024 15:23

Veggie is fine, fish not so much.

squashedalmondcroissant · 19/03/2024 15:24

Food is allowed on the coach but not hot food.

I don't find sushi smelly at all but maybe some people do?

@FuzzyPuffling its veggie so just avocado/carrot/cucumber etc. No fish involved 😊

I eat sushi, even the a fish kind on public transport, it's really not smelly at all unlike egg or tuna sandwiches.!

Onelovelyone · 19/03/2024 15:24

As it’s vegetarian sushi and there is no fish, I do not think it’s antisocial. Also, with a fairly empty coach there doesn’t really seem to be anyone you are likely to bother eating it.

Enjoy the sushi!

Isseywith3witchycats · 19/03/2024 15:24

i cant see that vegetarian sushi would be offensive to anyone else its not like tuna mayo or egg mayo sarnies that smell strong or anything curry based , i couldnt go 8 hours on a coach without eating anything

Talipesmum · 19/03/2024 15:24

Totally fine. Even fish sushi doesn’t smell of anything really.

AmyDudley · 19/03/2024 15:25

Only anti social if you are going to eat it with your mouth open and belch loudly when you've finished.

minipie · 19/03/2024 15:25

Agree sushi - including the raw fish kind - is not smelly

You crack on OP

FuzzyPuffling · 19/03/2024 15:26

Apologies,
veggie sushi
No fish
Yes.

squashedalmondcroissant · 19/03/2024 15:27

@Isseywith3witchycats yes I find egg anything sandwiches, particularly if they are a few hours old, very stinky and unappealing 🤢 I love eggs but I don't make them to take places with me for this very reason!

squashedalmondcroissant · 19/03/2024 15:29

@AmyDudley I definitely wouldn't do that, no matter what I was eating! 😂

Raw fish sushi stinks and is vile. I hate all fish and seafood. It all stinks.

Veggie sushi is probably fine.

shhsj · 19/03/2024 15:32

I don't find veggie sushi smells so I wouldn't worry about it.

KreedKafer · 19/03/2024 15:32

It's not remotely antisocial to eat vegetarian sushi on a coach! Why would it be?

Even fish-based sushi wouldn't be antisocial. Raw fish doesn't smell of anything much at all.

As PPs have pointed out, there are plenty of sandwiches that would be a lot whiffier than a tray of sushi.

If it's an eight-hour journey I'm pretty sure most people will be eating something at some point, whether that's sandwiches or a pre-made salad or whatever. It's fine.

murasaki · 19/03/2024 15:51

Oranges and eggs are the absolute no no for me.

Veggie sushi won't bother anyone.

pinkgown · 19/03/2024 15:56

I've taken sushi as a snack on coaches and trains - the fish sort. It's not smelly, unlike the winkles which one of the kids used to eat on the school bus when I was little.

However I'm not allowed to eat it in our car any more - not since DH had to do an emergency stop and my sushi splattered all over the dashboard😬
