Vaping in the car?

lilypineapplle · 19/03/2024 11:38

Me and my colleague have decided to share lifts to work starting this week.

Today was my turn and she used her vape the entire time. Never asked if it was ok, never opened a window. Aibu to think this is rude?

I know obviously I could say - please don’t do that. But it’s a long journey and I didn’t want to have to sit in the awkwardness.

God so why didn’t you just say ‘Please would you not vape in my car thank you.’?
You know you’re going to have to sit in it her car don’t you?
I’d stop the car share, I couldn’t put up with sitting in stinky vape clouds.

Mrsttcno1 · 19/03/2024 11:44

I think this is really rude, and I don’t even particularly have an issue with vaping in general I just think surely you’d at least ask the driver first? Just the same as if I was going to have a drink or a snack in someone else’s car I would ask if it’s okay first!

Flapearedknave · 19/03/2024 11:44

I have a friend who vapes and they insist on going outside at my house.

Your colleague is rude and I wouldn't care share with them.

ButterCrackers · 19/03/2024 11:45

Just say no vaping in my car.

LawrieForShepherdsBoy · 19/03/2024 11:49

I take it she only vaped today in her own car, not yesterday in yours?

If it’s a deal breaker for you, then the car share may not work. You could run it past her first, before you cancel the whole thing. She may value the lift share more than she cares about the vaping. If she wants to keep vaping when she’s driving, and you don’t want to be in the car while she does, then just end the agreement.

LawrieForShepherdsBoy · 19/03/2024 11:52

Ignore my last post - I misread the op. Sorry, she behaved really badly vaping in your car.

Hereyoume · 19/03/2024 12:03

Last time she would be in my car, and I would have opened the window myself.

Did you open a window?

And you'll just have to tell her you don't like it so it's best you don't share

She must be driving one -handed!

DrJoanAllenby · 19/03/2024 12:09

Why would you not say anything?

It's bizarre.

'I don't allow smoking or vaping in my car. You'll have to wait until we get to work.

What's she going to do? Stab you?!

OhItsOnlyCynthia · 19/03/2024 12:14

Come on, you could have just told her not to. I'm amazed she didn't ask if it was okay, because it quite obviously isn't and anyone who doesn't smoke or vape wouldn't allow it.

HopeSpringsInfernal · 19/03/2024 12:16

Incredibly rude.

I vape and I wouldn't dream of doing that.

Surely your drive to work isn't so long that your colleague couldn't wait? What would she do on public transport?

BUt you should have just told her to stop

MaloneMeadow · 19/03/2024 12:18

YANBU. I find it absolutely disgusting and antisocial

MagentaRocks · 19/03/2024 12:36

I don't even vape in my own car if I have a passenger

It’s around a 2 hours drive one way.
