It's hard to explain what I mean but I'll try!

One relating to the future...I feel sad that I won't be around when humans inevitably connect with some other form of life or some incredible space discovery.

There's one regret I have about the past...That I wasn't around for the hippie era.

One that's kind of odd and I can't put my finger on why I feel like this but...I was a teenager in the late 90s/early 2000s and I always had this weird regret that I couldn't ever experience being an American high school kid or going to an American college. Nit sure why but that's really strongly connected to that era and my age then.

Just wondering whether anyone else gets these wistful thoughts!

I was also a teen in the late 90’s and desperately wanted to live in America and go to an American high school. I think the likes of Clueless, Saved by the Bell and Sweet Valley High idealised it for me. Still love America and I do also feel wistful for those times!

CharlotteStreetW1 · 18/03/2024 23:09

That I never saw the Queen (QEII) in the flesh.

WinterMorn · 18/03/2024 23:12

That there are parts of the world I doubt I will ever see due to our (rightly) poor diplomatic relations with them.

Maybe it's completely natural, we were forced fed that stuff after all....Sweet valley high! 😍😅 I just really wanted to go to "a game", prom, a drive thru, a diner....Have those oddball friends in a technicolour world.

Never saw Led Zep 😞

RM2013 · 18/03/2024 23:22

That there are so many places I’d love to visit but probably won’t

EndlessWashingUp · 18/03/2024 23:23

I've always wanted to visit Russia - see Moscow, St Petersburg, go to the Bolshoi. I suspect that'll be impossible for who knows how long.

Me too, looks out of the question now for who knows how many years.

Rainbowshit · 18/03/2024 23:38

I've always wanted to go to Egypt in the 1920s.

Bluefell · 18/03/2024 23:39

I wish I could be married to someone I love who loves me back. I settled a long time ago and my life is decent otherwise. I know it’s never going to happen for me. But I watch romance movies and I just wish I could feel those emotions in real life. I know what it feels like, because I’ve loved a couple of men who didn’t reciprocate. I just can’t imagine how wonderful it must be to love someone who also loves you.

RawBloomers · 18/03/2024 23:40

The Earth from space.

MrsAvocet · 18/03/2024 23:41

I'd also love to visit Russia. I've wanted to travel on the trans Siberian express since I saw tv programme about it when I was a kid and it was going to be my retirement holiday of a lifetime but I guess that's never going to happen now!
On a more prosaic level, it makes me sad that I will never be able to walk up a mountain again because of health issues.

Hazelnutwhirl · 18/03/2024 23:42

Also wished I had married and had a family, although that’s less wistful and more sad.

I have always thought it would be cool if i could experience different jobs, even if just for a day.

BreakfastAtMimis · 18/03/2024 23:46

I would have absolutely loved to have travelled overland from Europe to Thailand on the "hippie trail" in the 1960s. ✌️ Or to have driven Route 66 across the USA.

PoochiesPinkEars · 18/03/2024 23:50

I would dearly have loved to see the Britain/ the world in all its natural glory before roads and fences and the plundering of earth's resources began.
I daresay I'd have met a sticky end in no time being scoffed by a free roaming predator 🤣, but just to inhabit for a short while a totally pristine environment I think would make me feel so alive!

TheGhostOfKatesProlapse · 18/03/2024 23:50

I sometimes feel I can almost imagine myself in other jobs/countries, a bit like Sense8 if anyone saw that? I had good grades for everything when younger and struggled to choose and ended up under achieving. I imagine I became the famous writer, the scientist that found a new antibiotic, the child psychologist that made the difference...

I also had the American wonder at school - there was so much on TV with the USA chants at high school and their big colourful clothes compared to uniform, plus the Point Horror/Sweet Valley high stuff. Bush was very good at telling them and the world they were boss!

JanglingJack · 18/03/2024 23:50

I'll never be able to drive a car again... My post kids travel around Europe is off.

I may never be able to walk again in the next few years.

I wish I'd taken more drugs and gone to more festivals or gigs. I wish I'd seen Nirvana at Reading.

LoreleiG · 18/03/2024 23:54

I wish I had been to Australia. I probably won’t now as I hate flying. But then I heard today it’s got a red ant problem so that made me feel better about not going as I am a magnet for insects.

PoochiesPinkEars · 18/03/2024 23:56

@Hazelnutwhirl @Bluefell 💐 a lonely heart is hard. I know, I've been there.

Nat6999 · 18/03/2024 23:56

I'm disabled & housebound, I will probably never see Filey, my happy place again & the place we spent so many holidays as kids.

HerRoyalNotness · 18/03/2024 23:59

I had two almost trips that I regret not doing. A ski weekend to Iran and a quick trip into Saudi Arabia for work. It was during the 2nd Gulf War and the SA trip was preceded by a bombing so decided not to go. I was also trying to get a job in Iraq during the reconstruction that didn’t happen. Would love to have seen those countries, most likely won’t now.

Flown on Concorde

Romeiswheretheheartis · 19/03/2024 00:02

I'm another one who always wanted to go to Russia. I loved Russian history at school. I do feel now that it'll never happen.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 19/03/2024 00:03

Also wistful that I never saw Leonard Cohen live.
