I’ve not long been made permanent at work and I generally enjoy my job however it’s high pressured sometimes. We have a lot of sickness in our team so I have been picking up more work than usual.

Ive been feeling down for over a month and finally plucked up the courage and went to the doctors today. He has put me on sertraline and I feel dreadful he has explained that it will get worse before it gets better.

I can’t work like this feel dizzy and nauseous and very anxious. I have so many important meetings coming up but I’m not in the right frame of mind.

Do I just suck it up and battle through? Or take a week off.

Feeling down that can be changed with lifestyle changes or feeling down where drugs are the only answer? If it’s the first make some changes to improve how your feeling but if it’s the latter take a week off then see how you feel

If the workload is unreasonable, have you spoken to your line manager and told them them it is impacting your health and it is not sustainable before it got to this stage? Have they been helpful?

If not can you?

I would think if would be more beneficial to you long term to treat the cause of the stress rather than only medicate it.

I believe it's super important to take care of yourself first and foremost. Going to work and feeling under the weather will only add to your pressure. Work places, more often than not, will replace you in a heartbeat. Take the week off.

I would suggest, if your current feelings are work related that it's important to speak to your line manager and HR. Burnout is not good for you personally and them as a business. And the medication will only help you feel better, it won't improve the working environment.

Please take extra good care of yourself. xx

Take a week off.

Your mental and physical health is important.

Take a week off, first week of Sertraline was hell on earth for me but you do level out eventually, I'd have been a liability in work if I'd gone in though. Look after yourself first, work can wait.
