Stopped by the police for no reason

I was driving and police were behind me. I took a right turn. Police then pulled me over. Their reasoning was that it looked suspicious that I made a right turn when they were behind, like I was trying to get away? They checked my details and car to make sure I had insurance, MOT etc. and asked for my name and asked if I’d ever been in trouble with the police before. Has this ever happened to anyone else? It just felt silly and pointless and he came over with quite an attitude with me when I hadn’t done anything. I know sometimes people do have no insurance but to say it was suspicious that I took a right turn seemed strange

Sounds like a jackass. They love a power trip.

Our road was closed a couple years ago, and we had access to get to your houses but people were still using it to avoid taking the long diversion overnight and damaging the works etc. So the posted police just round the bend after the road closed sign, so
you couldn’t see them and they caught everyone trying to fly through it. But they were so rude, and when they stopped me they said, “Where do you think you’re going?” Instead of just “are you using this for access?” Or something less accusatory. Then he didn’t believe that I lived in the road and followed me up to my drive and stood on my path and watched me unlock my door. Wankers.

Similar. I was turning right out of a side road on to a road which had parked cars so I couldn’t see if there any oncoming cars. I drove out slowly and as it happened a police car was approaching in the distance. They did a u turn and pulled me over. First they accused me of drink driving, and then when that came back clear, claimed I didn’t have a valid licence!

All fine in the end but I assume sometimes they get bored and try their luck with random checks.

Road traffic laws give police far more latitude with pulling over drivers for no reason at all compared to people not in a vehicle. They don't need any suspicion, motive, etc. they can legally pull you over and waste your time for absolutely nothing.
