For feeling worried that I was drinking on a work social

On Friday, there was a leaving do for a young lad who’s worked with the company for 10 years.

Now, I’m quite young myself I’m 28, and I would love to be part of senior leadership some day. My worry is that I do go out to social things I have a drink or two, and I always wonder if they’re judging me while I’m having a drink. I had a bottle of wine shared between me and a colleague? Or if they’re generally watching conduct, I hang around with my team who are a little brash and loud and will have a few to drink.

I just worry if they’d consider all of these things if I was to try and get into SLT?

Unless someone was obviously drunk and/or behaving badly I doubt they were even aware of others/you or what they/you were drinking. I'm sure they were drinking too. At one time they were where you are now ie they are human just like you

Nah I was just having some food and had a glass of wine. Was no Lairy behaviour at all.

What you describe sounds fine.

I applaud you for having an eye on this though, I do think it's good not to be falling down drunk at work do's! I am senior leadership and these days I usually stay for 1, 2 max and then bow out before it gets messy.

I went out after and it got messy but it was just my immediate team. However I may have to be more cautious moving forward.

Unlikely they were aware or bothered at all then. You were doing what was expected.
