I visited my local large Boots store this afternoon to have a browse of the perfumes to treat myself, and it felt like I’d stuck a fresh leg of lamb in a piranha tank. The staff were standing in a group by the cabinets watching my every move, which also made it hard to look at the range without being right next to a staff member, and any time I made the mistake of lingering by a certain brand one of them popped up beside me to ask if I needed help. I actually lost count of the number of times I was approached. There are no longer any tester strips on the displays, I was told to ask staff if I wanted a fresh one but when I did so it felt really pressured, the staff member would start listing the bottle sizes and ask which one I was interested in so they could get it out for me. One staff member asked if I needed help and I said I was just browsing, a few minutes later I caught her eye again and she said in quite an abrupt tone “You look lost are you sure you don’t need anything??”
I used to love a good long browse and sniff session in Boots but I couldn’t wait to get away today. I almost left with nothing but really needed a new perfume so I stuck it out, as soon as I turned round to ask someone to get it out the cabinet there were two staff members who rushed toward me at the same time. It has really put me off going back.
Anyone else had the same experience, or knows what the reason is for the double glazing sales tactics??
