What did you wear first 6 weeks postpartum?

Posting here for traffic and because I’m impatient lol.

due soon and I know this is probably a bit of a dumb thing to think about but I’m wondering what clothes I’ll be able to wear for those first 6 weeks after having my baby. I’m not going for the most stylish fashion contest lol but more for comfort with a bit of style for those first trips out. I’ve heard people still wore some of their maternity clothes those first few weeks and to be honest I’ve lived in leggings most of this pregnancy and will do after. I know every woman is different and how everyone’s body reacts and goes back to normal or a new normal varies. I didn’t put on much weight this pregnancy so I’m hoping my shape will come back sooner and I’ve bought those belly wrap things to help recovery and my shape return. Hoping to do a lot of walks as the nicer weather returns so that should help recovery and getting my body back.

I also had a c section.

Invested in a couple of lounge wear sets for being at home and then lived in leggings and oversized t shirts / fleeces and shirts . I'm 5 months postpartum and only now have I started wearing jeans again ( if I have to 😂)

Leggings
Loose dresses
Loungewear
Baby vomit

JollyHostess101 · 15/03/2024 16:22

Lucy Lockett leggings with double side pockets- so handy! I literally still living in them 8 months on

Previousreligion · 15/03/2024 17:19

Mostly maternity clothes still. Leggings and baggy jumpers.

I didn't regain my figure truly for over a year. My waist has never gone back. I'm a size bigger now than pre-pregnancy.

TheSnowyOwl · 15/03/2024 17:21

I had a c section so stuck with dresses to begin with and then leggings before going back to maternity jeans and then normal clothes.

LizardOfOz · 15/03/2024 17:22

Pajamas. I wanted to remind myself and others I was recovering from birth and not doing my usual stuff

RampantIvy · 15/03/2024 17:32

TBH I can't remember, except that I was back in my pre-pregnancy jeans at 3 weeks. Not a stealth boast as I couldn't eat much when pregnant so I didn't put much weight on.

Breastfeeding DD meant that my uterus was back to its pre-pregnancy size at 10 days.

PJs

Joggers and T-shirt

I wore my maternity pants and big knickers to kinda hold my jelly belly in place so I felt better 😂😂😂 honestly stick with the maternity pants for a while you'll feel so much more comfy. I then went back to normal leggings. Didn't try my normal jeans on for ages as I knew they'd not fit plus they're just not comfy for when your busy with the baby

sarahc336 · 15/03/2024 18:04

Oh and baggy tops too

Mel2023 · 15/03/2024 18:45

I pretty much continued to wear leggings and maternity/breastfeeding tops. It was also summer so I had some loose midi dresses as well which I could dress up if I wanted to. I went out for a meal for my birthday 6 days after baby was born and I loved putting a nice floaty midi dress on, doing my hair and putting make up on for the first time in ages. I felt a bit like “me” again.

I had a c-section so found these clothes more comfy as didn’t want anything tight over my scar. If it was a day I wasn’t leaving the house with no visitors then pjs all the way in the early days! Although, I think after feeling huge and uncomfortable when pregnant, and nothing fitting right, I did try to get some style back when I felt like it! I loved shopping for breastfeeding friendly clothes for example. I’m now 2 years pp and have to admit the leggings have never truly gone away since I discovered how comfy they were when I had baby!

I had a couple of decent pairs of maternity work trousers, 1 pair of mat jeans and 1 pair of yoga pants in my latter days of being pg.

I wore the jeans and my yoga pants a lot in the first few weeks. With the mat trousers for a couple of dressier days (I was really sick of them by then!).

On top, I had a mix of plain stretchy tops and ribbed polo neck jumpers (it was mid winter).

I was flat broke at the time. I went a bit nuts buying chords and nice jeans when dd was 9 months old and I went back to uni. But in the early days, as dd had silent reflux so explosive vomiting was a daily occurrence, I just aimed for clean things that vaguely fit.

BiddyPop · 15/03/2024 21:18

I also did a lot of walking (wore through 2 sets of tyres on the zap buggy system in 20 months!). So anything that worked well with runners was ok most of the time.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 15/03/2024 21:23

A belly band corset type thing - can’t recall where I got it from. Flattened scar, supported back and tummy.
Going out I wore big pants and tights- summer baby so able to hide in winter!

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 15/03/2024 21:24

Oh and loads of walking - Labrador.

Threetrees745 · 15/03/2024 21:35

I've seen you post a lot over the last couple months about looks and how you will during and after your pregnancy it seems like it's occupying a lot of your thoughts. Is everything ok?

SnappyCritic · 12/12/2024 14:47

Maternity clothes--had no choice. (I still had that huge belly!)
