Should I have sent my 13 year old DS to school with a moderate cough?

He was off for 3 days - mild temperature, tiredness and persistent cough. No mucous, or phlegm, so assumed viral. Neg for covid. Yesterday he seemed a lot better, but kept him off and sent him today.

Cough is worse at night. But, he also puts his ENTIRE SELF into the cough so it's full on and noisy. And also, I think, triggers it becoming worse. And, we both think that he was not necessarily 'putting it on', but that he liked the home downtime...

Anyway, he went to school because honestly, this could go on for a while and he's well in himself.

Texts me at lunch to say he can't stop coughing. I sympathised, but he went on and on with texts.

My point is, should I have kept him off despite him being well in himself?
