Is my landlord trying to overcharge me? Confused

I receive housing element of UC. It doesn’t cover the full amount.
My rents due on the 18th of each month but UC pay it on the 11th of each month.

My landlord confirmed he received a payment today from UC housing element but is saying that rent is due again on the 18th March. How can that be? He says the rent he received today from UC was for last months rent as it’s paid in arrears. Is that right? I’m really confused.

Did you pay the full rent on the 18th Feb?

Did you pay the shortfall on the 11th?

@sparkellie yes it’s all been paid up. Apparently I also have £300 odd credit on my rent account but I’m really confused

UC is paid in arrears so that may well be correct, unless the previous poster is correct and you paid the full rent yourself on the 18th Feb

There was some very small arrears for the shortfall which I’ve paid off. Im moving out in April so I’ve sent a payment which covers the rest of the shortfall till I move out so I’m credit. But he is saying rent is due again in a week but I don’t understand how

Ask him to provide you with a breakdown of all the payments he has received over the period of time in question and check it against your records (bank statements etc).

He has to keep a record of this so should be able to provide this easily.

Yes, UC or housing benefit is usually paid in arrears every four weeks. So it is likely if they have paid today it will be for the period 12th Feb to 11th March.

If your rent is charged every month on the 18th your landlord is correct in saying the next rent payment is due 18th March. They won't receive the UC payment until April.

If you work out the amount you need to cover the weekly difference in rent and pay that weekly or monthly it should all work out spread over the year.
