Thinking about one flavour whilst eating another

My dh will sometimes look up a recipe for one thing whilst he is eating something with an entirely different flavour.

The thought of doing this is really weird to me, I can’t read or think about opposing flavours without it spoiling the flavour of the food I’m eating, especially if they’re flavours that really don’t complement each other.

Not really an AIBU, more that I’m interested to know whether others have strong feelings on this.

YABU - nothing wrong with reading about one flavour whilst eating another, it doesn’t negatively affect the experience of eating

YANBU - eating one flavour whilst reading about another would completely ruin the experience of eating, the thought of doing so is abhorrent

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest!

It doesn’t bother me. I eat for convenience so sometimes drool over more elaborate food in the supermarket food magazines, whilst I am eating my simple dinner.

What I can’t be arsed with is watching recipes for the same of it.

I don't like smelling someone else's different flavour food when I'm eating- I was eating chocolate on the train recently and someone had really cheesy crisps nearby and it ruined my chocolate. I can look at recipes for other stuff whilst eating in theory, but don't tend to multi- task whilst eating. It's all about the food.

@AllProperTeaIsTheft and @Untethered can I ask: does the taste of what you’re eating not compromise your ability to imagine the flavour of what you’re looking at? Or are you not imagining the taste of the recipe whilst you’re looking at it?!

@Veryverycalmnow omg yes, how disappointing!
