So 4 years ago I kicked my (now) ex husband out. Contacted a load of solicitors and instructed one.
Because of DV I auto qualified for legal aid. And the solicitor I instructed has helped me all this time in child proceedings and financials. all under legal aid.
So today I come home from work to a letter from legal aid debt collections saying I owe them over £600. So I called them and it’s basically for work a solicitor I had an initial chat with has charged for! I’ve never instructed this solicitor nor have I signed anything for him to apply for legal aid for me.
The LA have said he has been paid by them for work done for me! And I owe this debt.
I can either send through the required info or appeal it. I’m obviously going to appeal this. But I can’t help but thing he’s forged or faked my signature To be paid for work. And how many other people has this happened to. Or he has over charged.
i called his office and the number is dead. I found a mobile on line to which he answered and said he doesn’t care, he’s retired and doesn’t have insurance to work and hung up on me?!
WTAF do I even do. Has anyone been through anything like this??
