To ask about airsoft

Has anyone ever done airsoft? It looks like paintballing without the paint. I’m going next weekend for a friend’s birthday and I’ve never been before. Do you get hurt? It’s an all day battle thing and I’m dreading it. I’m unfit and I don’t think it’s my thing at all. For various reasons I said I’d go to support my friend thinking it would be a couple of hours but she’s now saying it’s 8 til 4 so I’ve got to get up about 6.30 am after a busy week at work too. How much does it hurt when you get shot? I’ve never regretted saying I’d do something so much in my life

Yes, I used to be an Airsofter and yes, it really hurts when you get shot! The guns are set to a certain FPS and will not go over the maximum, but they still hurt.

You will need a protective eye mask. I'd highly recommend full face protection as I've seen quite a few teeth shot out! You should also wear as much padding as you can, that you can still run around, crouch and lie prone in. I used to wear padded trousers, a tactical vest etc. A hat is a good idea too - cold ears are an absolute bitch when they get shot.

It's very, very exhausting. Be prepared to ache like crazy for a few days afterwards.

It's also very fun! If you don't mind getting cold, wet, muddy, shot and absolutely knackered 😂

Yes it hurts.

That’s a long day for your first time out! Yes - wear long sleeves. Light padded jacket, layers. Maybe gloves? Running gloves? They normally should provide eye protection. The actual guns are very realistic, and can be quite heavy - not sure about rental guns - maybe plastic but my DS has a few metal ones. The little pellets are hard plastic.
In terms of fitness, some people are running all the time but some people find a place to hide and stay there as long as they can! The day will be broken up into a series of games, and rules explained. It’s run fairly strictly, at least my DS’s one is - it’s an honour system - you have to ‘take your hits’ ie be honest if you are ‘hit’ and not pretend you weren’t! If she’s seem to be great fun though I understand your reluctance!

Thanks for all of your replies. It sounds just as bad as I fear. I might be able to slope off at lunchtime if I’m exhausted and have been shot 100 times. Or I might love it but mud isn’t my thing and nor is pain 😂. At least weather forecast looks dry

I’m hiring all the equipment which I think is overalls helmet gun and bullets so I’ll wear lots of layers under it might protect me a bit from the bruises

It does hurt but loose fitting clothing made out of something sturdy helps alot.

I completely agree with the first reply, my husband used to play regularly. You wouldn't believe some of the bruises he got!

Good on you for trying it though, I was always too nervous to have a go.
