To not want my child to go on this play date alone?

DD has had a a fair few play dates, however I always know the parents and have chatted at parties, school events etc and have got to know them over the years.

Is it there a new thing whereby parents who have never spoken to you, invite your kid round for a PD? Also, the Mum won’t be there so not sure if it’ll be Dad/another family member keeping an eye on DD.

I suggested we all meet up (me there too), just to get to know each other a bit more.

Am I unreasonable for thinking this isn’t play date etiquette? (if there is such a thing). I don’t want to cramp my daughters style but equally I have a nagging feeling that I have to attend aswell.

Btw, absolutely nothing I’ve seen has concerned me, the family seem really nice.

It depends on the age of the child.

We're taking a look behind the scenes.

It's normal either way at our school, reception age. I've had parents I've never met drop their child at my house and others who want to stay. So I wouldn't say it's poor etiquette or a new thing. It is personal choice whether you want to do it though.

At 6 (Year 1) my DD has now started going on play dates without me there, and we’ve taken friends of hers out for the day without their parents. These are people I’m not friends with but have met and spoken to plenty of times over the last year at school pick up and drop offs, birthday parties etc. Seems normal to me.
