To put a privacy screen between neighbour and I

A long story short is my neighbor and I can see into each other's properties.

I put blinds up but he does not, he can see directly into my garden from the kitchen and I feel it distinct lack of privacy when outdoors. as the fence is quite short am I okay to put a privacy screen up to increase the height.
I've spoken to him but he just fobs me off. I would like to have a summer where I can enjoy my garden.

Just do it.

Good fences make good neighbours, and all that.

Absolute - go for it.

When I bought my house over 20 years ago the fence between me and my neighbour was low enough that we could see each other over it so when i could afford it I got a higher fence put up. He had no problem with that and remains to be a good neighbour.

You can have a fence or screen up to 2meters high I believe. There are some limits on how close to someone else’s window but I think 2meters away is acceptable too.
I would get on and do what you need to do.

You can put a higher fence in your garden. It may have to be wholly on your land if the low fence belongs to him( check the deeds). You can look on gov.I'm for rules on fences.

I put a massive 6 foot 6 fence up in similar circumstances, it changed my life, even though I lost a few inches of garden.

Of course!

Why second guess it? It's your space. My neighbours recently reconfigured their windows, so we're doing a lot of planning around how to reintroduce the privacy back into our garden in a way that suits us. We're not discussing it them because it's our garden we're adjusting.

You can buy instant screening from nurseries. I'd definitely go for it

We are doing the same. Neighbour kicked off when another homeowner put a privacy screen in. Says it spoils his view.
Tough shit. Looking at him spoils my day.

Herdinggoats · 06/03/2024 11:35

even if he put blinds up he wouldn’t pull them during the day, so go for the screen. It bothers you not him so you need to fix
