With the Sky series Mary and George now showing one topic has come to prominence. Is our moral compass set by the society around us or by our own individual core beliefs.
George Villiers was denounced by Parliament in 1628 as 'the cause of all England's evils', which by anyone's standards is a heavy burden. A member of the public then shot him dead to solve the issue of England's evils. But it didn't work. England was still evil. In retrospect it was said he wasn't actually the cause of all English evils, but a product of an England that was evil.
So the question is do we just become as bad as society let's us be or do we create our own boundaries as to how bad we will become and, if we just mirror society, how bad can it get.
