To be devastated I can’t find my 2014 time capsule

In March 2014 my kids and I made a time capsule box with a few bits and bobs of early/mid 10s pop culture and things the kids made at the time (I can’t remember exactly what was in there though) after getting the idea from a magazine. We were planning to open it in March 2024 but I can’t for the life of me remember where I put it. I’ve looked everywhere in the loft and garage but I just can’t find it.

I know it’s a first world problem and call me ridiculous but I’m really upset. I’d have loved to open it with my kids now after all these years and see what we put in there and I feel like I’ve let them down by losing it!

If you don’t find it, you can always open it in 2034. The children might be adults, but they will probably appreciate the time capsule even more at that point.

I agree - wait for it to turn up and then wait for 2034. By then it’ll be even more ancient and exciting! I wish I’d done a time capsule in 2004, it would fascinate me now, it feels like such a long time ago.

I’ll probably have to leave it til 2034 if it doesn’t turn up soon. It’s really annoying because I can’t think of anywhere else it could be.

Back in the 90s I searched for my 1981 time capsule for hours and didn't find it. I'd be even more interested to find it now, but my parents have buried various dead pets in their garden over the years, so I'd be scared of disinterring the wrong thing now.

It doesn't want to found yet. It will turn up at a perfect moment. Trust the process?

What inspired you at the time to do a time capsule?

You don't have to wait until 2034 though .... You could go wild and open it in 2027 or something. Just open it whenever it turns up!

There's one on our property. They buried it in our side garden by the fence and put a plaque up staying who had contributed and the date, January 1st 2000. The previous owners made it I think along with 2 other households all now moved. We've lived here for 18 years. I occasionally wonder if I'll get a knock at the door one day and someone will come to ask if they can open it. I'd love to know what's inside.

OP could you ask your kids if one of them remembers where it is, they might have an idea where you put it at the time.

Surely as it's on your property it belongs to you and you can do what you want with it?

Technically I suppose but it was made by 3 families of kids so I think one day they might come back.and be upset if I've dug it up and opened it.

That would really annoy me too!
