Help! Eaten a boiled egg that had been cracked and had black gone off bits in it

Ok I didn’t notice as it’s late and I ate in the kitchen with soft light. But I got halfway through the egg and realised that there was a crack in the shell and some of the egg white and yellow had gone black? The white cooked a bit slimy and it had black bits in it. Certainly gone off. Help! Anyone else done this? Will I be sick?

You'll live!

Did it stink? Gone off eggs are vile! Are you sure it wasn’t over boiled causing it to go slightly darker in places.

JKDcot · 04/03/2024 21:40

Can’t believe I didn’t notice? Just tired and hungry and ate in the dark. What an idiot. It smells bad too now I turned the lights on and properly looked at what I was eating

I know you shouldn’t eat eggs after their sell by date. This is well in date but just was opened….

No definitely the shell had been cracked as I took it out my egg cup and noticed it had a hole in it…

Oh dear….drink lots of water and pray!

DSD9472 · 04/03/2024 21:41

It was cooked through. Hopefully, IF you have any ill effect at all, it might be just diarrhoea tomorrow. Likely nothing at all.

DrJoanAllenby · 04/03/2024 21:41

Fingers down your throat and bring it back up?

ExtraOnions · 04/03/2024 21:47

The shell can crack when boiled, and some eggs that are fine go black when boiled (over cooked). Are you sure it was damaged pre boiling

puzzledout · 04/03/2024 21:48

Honestly OP, don't worry ...... you'll end up eggshausted!

TeaKitten · 04/03/2024 21:49

Are you sure you didn’t just over cook it? The shell obviously cracked when cooking it. How long ago did you boil it?

Gagagagagaga · 04/03/2024 21:49

You can eat eggs past their date, just do the float test. If they rise to the top of a glass of water they’re off.

Are you sure it wasn’t just a blood clot?

Too late for that

RIP op's loo

idontlikealdi · 04/03/2024 21:54

Black around the yoke? Normal.

JKDcot · 04/03/2024 21:55

It definitely didn’t crack when j boiled it. It was cracked before as the egg smelt bad. I just didn’t notice

Thanks to those being kind. Unfortunately I have a vomit phobia so don’t react normally to this stuff

If you didn’t notice before you boiled it then how do you no it smelt bad? Why didn’t it leak or open when cooking?

JKDcot · 04/03/2024 21:58

It was a tiny crack in the shell. As soon as it was cooked I put it in an egg cup cut the top
open and started eating. Was only when I was halfway down I realised it was smelling from the other side and was black

JKDcot · 04/03/2024 21:58

I ate the top of the egg that was not black and didn’t smell. The bottom half was the bad half. Does that make it ok?!?

I'd go to sleep if I were you. If you're going to be sick you'll wake up.

StormKevin · 04/03/2024 23:12

You’ll be absolutely fine. You’re being completely neurotic. Eggs are fine well past their BB date.

Can’t believe you are on MN and don’t know the term emetophobia. It’s almost as common here as having two X chromosomes.

Blarn · 04/03/2024 23:12

You can't not notice an egg gone off, the smell is awful. If it had gone off you'd have realised as soon as you cracked it open. Before for really bad ones.

Egg-sactly!! 🥚 Oh god, so many words ‘egg’ can go in-front of.

But I do hope you’re okay, OP. I’m sure you’ll feel egg-cellent by tomorrow (that was the last one, I promise!)
