Scabies in school.

A nursery teacher at my daughters school has caught scabies and gone into the school. My daughter isn’t in nursery but they do mix as she’s in reception. Nursery is shut tomorrow to be deep cleaned. I’m a worrier. How likely is this to spread around the school?

It’s more common in schools than you think. I would imagine from experience that the teacher has been directed to go in!

NHS guidance says that you can return to school 24 hours after starting treatment. I’ve only known of one case where I work and it remained at that one case, the child returned to school 24 hours after starting treatment.

Thanks both. There’s a lot going on with parents threatening to keep their children off school until the entire school top to bottom has been fumigated. A lot of parents are kicking off about this

There is an national outbreak. They are dealing with it and I am unsure hygiene measures will be increased.

it is common in schools, I have caught it from pupils before. It is annoying, but easily dealt with

I don't think fumigation will make any difference, not from my memory of how it has been dealt with in schools before, wipe down of surfaces with disinfectant, I think.

Fumigation isn’t necessary.

There is lots of info available that may help pour your mind at rest….
