To be worried about this (or am I being ridiculous?!)

Fully prepared to be told I am being ridiculous!!

In the last few weeks, DH has twice left the fridge open. Not as in ajar, as in wide open!! Hasn't been a problem as I've noticed both times, but just seems so odd it's made me worry. We happened to watch a programme where someone died of CJD, which I think is making me paranoid that he has some dreadful form of early onset dementia!! He is only 32 and I've not noticed any other changes - think he once forgot to make me a cup of tea the other day when I had asked for one (while he was making himself a coffee), but that's not so unusual! Seems the same in himself, no problems at work (he has a fairly demanding intellectual job). The two fridge incidents happened a few weeks apart. But the fact it's happened twice has sent me into a total spiral!!

AIBU to be so worried?!

That in isolation I wouldn't be jumping straight to early onset dementia.

The hinges may have loosened, or heavier items in the door than usual, so that if he’s only nudged it to close it, it swings back open. It’s a lot more likely than CJD, certainly based on such an isolated pair of incidents.

CJD is incredibly rare. If he's 32 he was only 6 during the BSE crisis, so he's at much lower risk than older people. You are catastrophising this.

Did you ask him why he left the door open? My DH left our freezer door ajar twice and food had started melting before I noticed. We noticed it was because the door needed to be pushed quite heavily.

PickledPurplePickle · 04/03/2024 16:58

Are you sure it catches properly? Ours is very easy to leave open even if you think you’ve closed it

Sometimes ours bangs open again if you slam it, most likely explanation I think.

Fridge seems pretty robust - don't think it's all that likely that it bounced open or didn't catch, but obviously can't say for sure. The consensus definitely seems to be that I am being over-anxious though, which is reassuring!
