Emergency with axolotl

Sorry to post here....I'm in desperate need of help with an axolotl.
She's swollen so much she can't keep upright. Hasn't eaten in a month. I legitimately can't find an aquatic veterinarian in the whole of Wales.

Anybody have any idea what I can do???

Ah poor thing. This can be caused by a lot of things. Organ failure being one of them

Lovespring11 · 04/03/2024 23:02

There is some advice on here

There is an exotic vet called Sophie Jenkins. Based in Cardiff. Are you anywhere near there?

@Notthrilledatthatidea
Hi OP
How is it today?

@OliveTapenade oh thank you! Can you find a suitable vet? I'm desperate. Thanks

No, I can’t. Because that is your job, and one you should have done before buying a defenseless animal that you’re unable to care for.

Pretending that you keep axolotls as some kind of conversation attempt is laughable.

If you had posted a picture of a dog so sick and bloated that it was unable to move, and mentioned that you’d sought no veterinary care for it, the RSPCA would be called.

Imisscoffee2021 · 05/03/2024 13:22

Caudata.org has forums with great advice. I wonder if its dropsy :( hope you get the help you need with the poor thing, I have an axolotl too so I know must be distressing.

TheBunyip · 05/03/2024 13:23

there are a couple of excellent FB groups, but right now, get it into a tub with cool, fresh water that has been treated with Seachem Prime (tell me you have that)

TheBunyip · 05/03/2024 13:25

I do care? That's why my last ditch efforts is to post on mumsnet. My 'duty' is if there are actual veterinarians that will look at the poor thing? I've tried google/reddit/youtube/twitter along side EVERY aquatic shop in 100 mile radius.

I'm desperate ok.

But your right.....shouldn't of had it in the fucking place. Let them all die out eh!

You’re not a breeding programme tho are you! You’re not saving the species. You’ve just got one in a tank.

And if you’re going to say you are a breeder then more shame on you for having animals and not having a clue where to take them if they need help.

Collywobblewobbles · 05/03/2024 13:38

Which part of the country are you in @Notthrilledatthatidea ?

indianabones1 · 05/03/2024 16:57

There is an excellent exotic vet called Jordi at Blackwood pets4vets which is inside Pets at Home. Give them a call on 01495 233 060.
