When is it going to change

We’re in the 21st Century, supposedly so evolved and yet so many males still behave in such primitive ways - misogyny , sexism, incels, domestic abusers, coercive controllers, paedophiles, general violence towards women up to and including homicide.

Is it improving? It doesn’t feel like it. It feels like, if anything, things like the Internet and easy access to extreme porn has made it all the more commonplace.

It’s horrific and fucking depressing.

Do you think maybe it’s at the forefront of your mind, so you are actually actively looking for it? I live in the same world you do and very, very rarely come across anything like this. Literally maybe one little thing here and there years apart.

I work in a male dominated industry. Insidious sexist norms are an everyday experience.

Yeah, I think we're in some kind of push back phase due to some inroads having been made.

It's pretty depressing really.

Do you follow current affairs?

"supposedly so evolved"

No, we just think we are. We're still just overgrown apes with ideas. We're still animals.

Unfortunately, abusive / violent behaviour is never going to go away.

I think with social my egos etc and constant news, we’re more aware of it. Plus people are more willing to speak up, rather than let it go.

Even a few years back, we wouldn’t know about what was going on in Australia, America etc, apart from the major stories. Now either minor cr my entities make the news.

Also, the only news source were newspapers and tv and radio news. You don’t get the endless speculation. Just look at mn and the Christian Horner thread, for example.

Totally agree OP, soul destroying

Do you follow current affairs?

Yes, but what is shown to you isn’t really reflective of what is happening in your world/life. It’s sensationalism & media looking for things to shock you, offend you etc. look around you - how many people do you actually come across with those traits? The world Is a big place, and yes there are people like that, but they are the smallest minority, they just get pushed in your face by the media. How many billions are on earth, what is the proportion of people with the traits you mention, probable very minuscule.

Day to day I don’t experience anything like this first hand. I have a Dad, FIL, DH, brothers, BIL and all of them are decent, kind hardworking men who bend over backwards to keep on top of work, domestic duties and I think they genuinely see women as equals. Same for all the men I work with. They’re just decent blokes. And most women I socialise with would never take any shit from a man.
