What age for mid sleeper bed

What age did you get a mid sleeper bed for your DC? The ones taller than a normal bed with a short ladder, but shorter than a bunk bed height. Ladder is two rungs and there’s space for a den underneath the bed.

Aibu to think my 3 and a half year old could be ok in one?

My kids say for children 6 and over

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 03/03/2024 00:03

I think that's still too young. My son is 4 and I think even then he's too young for that.

Maybe 6?

The mid sleepers I’ve seen say from age 6.

NauseousNancy · 03/03/2024 00:04

I got my daughter one at almost 4. She’s been fine. Have a few friends with kids who have done it around the same age too, the ladders have proper steps so it’s easier for them.

Ds3 had one last year at just turned 6.

Looking at him climbing up and down, he could have had one years before I think, certainly from 3 or 4 upwards.

I got my 6 year old one this year and she’s fine, but when she’s poorly or had a bad dream it’s a pain because I can’t just climb into her bed and cuddle her (sneaking back out when she’s asleep is the real issue).

My dd was in one at 4 and a half as we moved and she was in the box room so we had to build the bed over the box and she was perfectly fine, never fell out of it, never slipped on the small ladder, it was just a pain in bum for us to change the bedding. Her and dd1 loved making a den underneath.

MammaTill2Pojkar · 03/03/2024 00:50

I'm using an Ikea Kura bed as a 'bunk bed' for my two (mattress directly on the floor for youngest), when using the upper bed it says min age 6 so we waited until eldest was 6 to move him up there and move 3yo underneath.

They do say 6 years but the ladder is very small and my 3 year old would be capable of using it, my worry is during the night if she forgets or is half asleep.

My DD moved into one at 3.5 - like you were were confident she was capable of using it safely and we drilled it into her how to safely climb up and down the ladder etc. she was completely fine and loved it

The ones with proper steps I think would be fine but not a ladder. DS is 3 in May and will be moving to a bed with a step up. It's a normal height double bed really but he'll need a step.
